Devonian Gardens
J.H. Cook Architects and Engineers designed the incredible Devonian Gardens, a large botanical refuge in downtown Calgary. It was donated to the City of Calgary by the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations and Calford Properties.
Devonian Garden opened in 1977. It contained more than 20,000 plants representing 135 tropical and local species. It was decorated with waterfalls, bridges, koi ponds and sculptures by local artists, showcased as a permanent art exhibition.

What is there to do at Devonian Gardens?
There are lots of benches and tables with chairs scattered throughout the gardens. You can always find a quiet spot to get lost in a good book, have lunch in the park, or take advantage of the beautiful indoor location to take pictures.
The garden features a tropical plant selection of horticultural significance and a range of programmed and flexible spaces. It features a children's play area with play structures and climbing walls, animated water features and koi ponds, open flexible seating areas, and event space.
J.H. Cook Architects and Engineers completed the garden's renovations in 2012. The revitalized place includes a new curtain wall, structural steel mezzanine, sloped glazing, skylights, and the complete reconstruction of interior garden spaces.
Devonian Gardens are a climate-controlled indoor park. It is good to enjoy the park during the CORE Shopping Centre's open hours. But the best time to visit the park is before or after the lunch hour on weekdays when it bustles with downtown office workers. After taking in the gardens, you can always head outside and visit the famous Stephen Avenue Walk, where there are plenty of local shops and restaurants to visit.
The Terrace is ideal for wedding ceremonies, corporate galas and fundraisers. This area accommodates up to 350 people in a variety of seating arrangements. Guests will mingle amongst the palm trees and meander past ponds filled with fish.
How big is Devonian Gardens?
Devonian Gardens is the only indoor public park in downtown Calgary located on The Core Shopping Centre's top floor.
It is in the middle of the city with one hectare of botanical gardens including over 500 trees, 50 varieties of plants, a 900 square feet living wall, fountains, fish ponds and a playground to climb and explore. The City of Calgary Parks maintains it.
Where is Devonian Gardens?
Devonian Gardens has a crisp and clean glass enclosure. Visitors can find it between 2 Street South West and 3 Street South West.
The park's exact address is 317 7 Avenue South West, CORE Shopping Centre.
Visitors can access it by going up to the 4th floor of the CORE shopping mall. It is only open when the mall is open, which is no later than 6 pm. You can park at the TD Core Parking area.
The Deconian Gardens are surrounded by the communities of Beltline, East Village and Eau Claire.
There is no cost to enjoy this public space. You may stop by for a short visit or stay for as long as you like.
