Nose Hill Park

Nose-Hill-ParkMuch has been done to preserve Nose Hill Park. Today, it is used year-round by hikers, walkers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts.

In the olden days, people could drive all the way to the top of the hill. But since the city has over 1 million people now, you have to climb the hill on foot. It is entirely worth it, though.

Nose Hill is a natural prairie park without any permanent water streams, only the rain runoff through the coulees and along the trails. It is one of the largest municipal parks nowadays, with 1,129 hectares of grassland.

What is there to do at Nose Hill Park?

From five o’clock in the morning until eleven in the evening, you can experience nature in the city when you visit this park.

Hikers can go up on the hill through the rough fescue grassland. Nose Hill Park has one of the most significant examples of this grassland ecosystem left on the Canadian prairies. If you are looking for something a bit different, head over to the Stone maze... trust us, this is unlike anything else you've seen in any other Calgary park.

Nose Hill Park features nine great hiking trails, running trails, mountain biking trails, and so much more. There is also the Nose Hill Siksikaitsitapi Medicine Wheel. This First Nations monument is a peaceful spot with vast views of the Calgary prairie.

For those who just want to chill, you can take a stroll in the park while enjoying the lovely views of downtown Calgary from the park. You may even get to see the Glacial Erratic at Nose Hill Rock.

Right next to the Nose Hill Parkrun is a great place that is suitable for walking the dogs because it has a large off-leash area. But owners must watch out as coyotes are present and might attack pets. Aside from coyotes, many other large mammals are also roaming the grasslands.

How big is Nose Hill Park?

Nose Hill Park is a natural park in Calgary’s northwest quadrant, Alberta, covering over 1129 hectares. It is the fourth-largest urban park in Canada.

The 12.7 kilometres heavily trafficked loop trail features beautiful wildflowers. The trail offers several activity options and is best used from March until November.

All in all, Nose Hill has a lot area of 11.27 square kilometres. 4.8 kilometres from North to South and 4.0 kilometres from East to West.
