What is there to do at Sandy Beach Park?
The park boasts many picnic sites for all visitors to enjoy. Most picnic areas have shelter, and some even have Fire Pits and BBQ stands. It is a perfect area for group picnics.
Sandy Park also features beautiful pathways. There are a few spots along the path where you can take a short steep climb down to the river.

Riverdale Dog Park
Visitors of Sandy Beach Park have access to multiple off-leash dog parks. The Riverdale Dog Park is great for the whole family as it has access to the river but also has beautiful covered pathways and many places to sit and rest. There is access to the Sandy Beach off-leash River Access through this dog park too. To the east of Riverdale Dog park is the Britannia Off-leash Area, where you can tromp through the forest and enjoy some stunning views. Naturally, it's a trendy spot for dog walking and cooling off on hot summer days.
Sandy Beach Public Boat Launch
There is also a convenient spot to launch a raft to float down the Elbow River. Enjoy the slow moving river as you pass right past the Calgary Golf & Country Club.
The most exciting feature here is the Elbow River is very open, given that the water here is from the Glenmore Reservoir. It's excellent for birders or people wanting to see open water. With all the berry bushes here, the birds are generally relatively abundant.
Sandy Beach Footbridge
This cool suspension bridge takes you to Riverdale Park, which has lots of woods to stroll through. It is a pleasant place to stop for a short while in the winter and enjoy the scenic view.
The water on the beach is gentle and shallow. Kids love throwing and moving rocks around. Some even bring buckets to play with.
The river and beach area are rocky and hard on the feet. Visitors may want to consider wearing water shoes.
