Baker Park

Across the Bow River lies a beautiful place called Baker Park. It is the most popular park for outdoor weddings and photoshoots.

Baker Park is named after Dr. Albert Henry Baker, a prominent citizen who dedicated his life to serving the city during World War I.

Baker Park is the site of the former Baker Centre Tuberculosis Institution. Later on, it was transformed into Baker Center, a home for handicapped individuals. At present, it is most commonly known as a riverside family recreation park.

Although it is right across the river in Bowness Park, the two parks could hardly be different. Bowness Park is busy and full of playgrounds, paddleboats, and mini-golf. On the other hand, Baker Park is much calmer and full of grassy areas, flowers and pathways.

Baker Park reflects its history as a World War I sanitorium with its geometrical walkways and arrow-straight tree-lined avenues and the Leo Mol landmark.

It is home to plentiful native plants & trees such as White Spruce, Green Ash, Colorado Spruce, Maple, Pine, Bur Oak, Paper Birch, Manchurian Elm, Flowering Crabtree, and so much more.

The park mainly attracts families in Calgary for its picnic areas, pathways, gazebos, seasonal washrooms and water fountains.

Along with the usual picnic areas and pathways, Baker Park also has the Frisbee / Disc Golf Course Calgary here. Its promenades, archways, arbour, grass amphitheatre, and river observation point make it a prized area for photoshoots. You can also visit the West Baker Park Boat Ramp to launch your boat or raft into the river. If you don't have one of your own, stop by Lazy Day Raft Rentals (Baker Park) and pick up one of there's!

The Baker Park section of the Bow River Pathway runs through rows of trees past the former sanitorium site to a large river observation point. It also features a wildflower mount and a sun bowl in the middle of the park.

A 4.3 kilometre lightly trafficked loop trail in the park is suitable for all skill levels. The trail offers several activity options. The best part is that dogs on leash can also use this trail.

How big is Baker Park?

Baker Park is a 12-hectare urban park on the Bow Riverbank on the west edge of the city of Calgary. It is part of the pedestrian and bicycle Bow River pathway that links a vast network of urban parks on both sides of the river.

The city of Calgary Recreation Department currently maintains the park.

Where is Baker Park Located?

The park is located at 9333 Scenic Bow Road, North West. It is situated across the river from Bowness Park, east of the Bearspaw Water Intake Pump Station.

The best thing about this park is it provides a free parking lot for the visitors.
