We at The Chamberlain Group love to host a great open house in Calgary. Calgary has so many houses every weekend that you can view and we think it’s the perfect opportunity to view what’s available, get some one-on-one time with the agent overseeing the home, and dig deeper than what you can see on an online MLS® listing.
But the problem is that we find too many people don’t use an open house to its fullest potential. Some people just want to pop their heads in a home to see what their neighbours live like. That’s fine. We understand that. Some are actually looking for their next purchase, but spend too little time to see the whole place. And still, others miss out on incredible chances to ask questions and investigate a home’s potential.

Open Houses This Weekend in Calgary
Let’s clear up some of the misconceptions and mistakes people make when viewing an open house.
So, how does it go? You drive around, spot a sign pointing the way to an open house and pop in for a quick look. Most people we see coming through the homes have either researched the place already and want a closer look, or they simply drove by and happened upon it. Either way, this is the best chance you’ll have to find out of the home fits your needs.
The most common mistakes we see people making are spending too little time walking through a home. C’mon. There’s no way you saw all the details of this house in 90 seconds. Did you even see the landscaped backyard? You need to take some time to really look at a home to see its worth to you.
The other mistake we see is that you have this incredible chance to talk to an experienced, knowledgeable real estate agent, and we only get a passing “Hello” from our visitors. If you have questions about the home, the price, or the area, that’s your best point of reference. Even if the house isn’t for you, there’s somebody standing right there who can hear what you need and point out alternatives for you to check out as well. Need a home near downtown Calgary? Of course, there are plenty of open houses in Calgary, but the best place to start is around you. You might find that you have a few neighbours wanting to sell their home, giving you the perfect chance to find a place in your own community.
Do your research before you come. The open houses we list are all advertised in advance, so you can plan out your visits, investigate the price and get an initial feel for the home. If there are pictures that don’t do justice to a room, then at the open, you can walk into that room and check it out for yourself.
Alternatively, you can actually meet the agent in charge of that house, and talk to them about your needs. More often than not, they’ll have a couple more houses in mind that you can look at as well to suit what you’re looking for.
Don’t you hate it when you miss out on a great deal? That’s why you need to find out the open houses in Calgary this weekend so that you don’t miss the perfect home before it’s too late. Although it’s fun to drive around and see what’s showing, its a better plan to schedule your showings so you don’t miss out on what you really want.
Also, ask questions. Some things can’t be known simply by browsing through the bedrooms.
- “What’s the reason they’re selling?”
- “How long has it been on the market?”
- “Are there other families in the area?”
- “Has there been any recent upgrades?”
These questions help you really dig deep into the home and find out all you need to know to make the most informed decision.
