Prairie Winds Park has been a popular and well-loved regional destination. It has been a community gathering place for a quarter-century. The park first opened on September 8, 1990, with a gazebo in the Grant MacEwan grove.

The government redeveloped the destination park from 2014 to 2017 with a whopping 11.9 million dollars budget. The park added features such as a playscape and upgraded wading pool.
Due to its proximity to the Calgary Airport, the authorities prohibit flying any device in Prairie Winds Park. The rule includes kites, model planes, drones, balloons, and any other airborne device.

Visitors can enjoy pleasure skating and cross country skiing in the park during winter. You can also see a large wading pool area with a lazy river and a smaller spray park. Washrooms open seasonally.
How big is Prairie Winds Park?
Prairie Winds Park is the largest City-owned park in Calgary's Northeast. It occupies 16 hectares of land.
It has a 1.1 kilometre lightly trafficked loop trail good for all skill levels and is primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running. Dogs can also use this trail but must be on a leash.
