De Winton Houses For Sale

The community of De Winton is actually referred to as a hamlet, a small gathering of homes with no real ties to each other. There is no central town or communal districts. Instead, de Winton residents live in large homes set apart from each other ample room to enjoy their privacy. Many of the houses here are in the 7 and 8-figure price ranges, with outbuildings and land to go with the home. The area is zoned for agricultural use, so many people use their lots to farm crops or house animals. The community has an approximate size of around 1800 residents, spread over approximately 600 homes. The area is loosely defined as west of Highway 2, south of Calgary’s city limits.

The majority of these homes are single-detached homes, large estates, to modest farmhouses in the lot. The residents here are split between agricultural workers and city workers. The commute into the city is easy along the Highway 2 access point. One thing is common in those groups: the residents here tend to be fairly affluent, living in large homes with much higher than average incomes. The majority are well-educated, working in high-profile careers and enjoying life outside of the city.

The De Winton Community Association gathers in the De Winton Hall and occasionally hosts events that help everyone know their neighbours. This includes an occasional art show, some dances, a craft fair, a Christmas party, and several recreational programs for members to attend.

Amenities near De Winton Real Estate

This is where the affluent come to play, and so there are plenty of amenities in and around the community itself. As for transportation, it’s easy to access the community. Highway 2 leads directly into De Winton and offers great commuting options for those who need to travel to and from work. The community also lies on several roads that allow access West to the mountains and other small towns like Millarville, Okotoks, and Black Diamond.

Most of the shopping is done in Okotoks or in Calgary’s south. The town of Okotoks has enough to offer that it is rarely necessary to visit the city. The small town atmosphere continues in Okotoks, so residents often prefer to find themselves there. The drive into the city is short and easy, maybe 10 minutes to the first o the retail stores and restaurants found in Calgary. It never feels like a journey to get to anything major or necessary. Even the hospital is easy to access along  Highway 2 into the South Health Campus in Seton.

Other amenities here include the Sirocco Golf Course, the sprawling beauty of a course with very meticulous greens and fairways. Some De Winton homes even back on to the course with this real estate at a premium. The Cottonwood Golf and Country Club is another course in the area, an exclusive location with many De Winton residents listed as their members. Heritage Pointe is probably the best golf course in the area, with a reputation for excellence. Finally, the Saskatoon Berry Farm is a hit among locals and city dwellers, a private farm with access to great berry picking in the summer and a weekly farmer’s market.

Schools near De Winton Homes for sale

The best schools for De Winton residents are found in either Okotoks or south Calgary. These schools include Strathcona-Tweedsmuir SchoolBishop O’Byrne High School, Tanbridge Academy, or Glenmore Christian Academy in Bridlewood. Other schools also include Holy Child School, All Saints High School, and Chaparral School.
These schools represent some of the best private, public and Catholic schools in the province. However, the Fraser Institute ranks Strathcona-Tweedsmuir as 21st in high schools and 34th in elementary schools across the province.
