Homes For Sale in Altadore
Altadore sits along Crowchild Trail SW and is considered within the southwest of Calgary. This residential community has more in common with the downtown core than the remainder of the south-western neighbourhoods of Calgary. The homes in Altadore are large with great backyards and good plots of land. To the north, it’s bordered by 34th Ave SW and the Marda Loop area. To the east, Altadore is lined by the Elbow River and the surrounding park and ravine into the river valley. To the south is 50th Ave SW and the North Glenmore community.
The demographics of Altadore are varied and diverse. Around 9500 people live in the community, 14% of which are first-generation Canadian immigrants. The income is, on average, higher than the rest of Calgary, many of the residents holding jobs within the downtown core. The population is well-educated, 75% of residents holding post-secondary degrees of some sort. Just fewer than half of the dwellings are single-family homes, with apartments, townhomes, duplexes, and converted structures making the other half. By all measures, Altadore is doing well and presents excellent real estate and community prospects.
The Altadore community is served by the Marda Loop Communities Association, a neighbourhood initiative to create an atmosphere of community within Altadore and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It cares for many different communities such as Garrison Woods, Altadore, South Calgary, and Riverpark. It offers day camps, seniors groups, hockey and soccer sports teams, swimming lessons, and much more.
Within the community and surrounding it, you’ll find amenities unlike anywhere else in Calgary. This community has some of the best shopping, the best park systems, and the best access to services and facilities in all of Calgary.
To begin, the Elbow River forms the natural boundary of this neighbourhood and residents enjoy River Park, a ridge that overlooks the river and Sandy Beach Park. These park systems provide off-leash areas, walking paths, biking, and access to the river. They contain playgrounds, picnic sites, gazebos, and canoe and kayak access points to the river.
One of the highlights of this area is Marda Loop, a unique shopping district unlike anything else in Calgary. The area was named after an old Calgary streetcar system called Marda, and this area was its turning point to loop back around Calgary’s downtown. The tram is gone, but the shopping district it created lives on.
Marda Loop is an outdoor shopping venue with several artisan stores, ethnic cuisines, and niche businesses. The trendy area is gaining interest as the neighbourhood gets more redeveloped and upgraded. Residents can choose from Safeway Garrison Woods and Tres Marias Food Market for grocery needs.
The Military Museums hold many artifacts from Canada’s contribution to the war efforts and display the courage of the Canadian armed forces. Right next door to the museum is the Flames Community Arenas, hockey rinks that give residents professional ice to play and skate upon. The Garrison Curling Club also meets nearby. River Park Church and Altadore Baptist Church are some of the options for places of worship in this community.
