Because of Hawkwood’s western location, access to the Kananaskis and Banff is extremely easy. This older community has a focus on space, and that’s evident with the enormous number of parks, playgrounds, fields, and trails that wind their way dot this suburb. The community of Hawkwood was developed with that type of living in mind.
The Hawkwood Community Association looks after this suburb with great zeal to see that it remains a family-friendly environment for everyone. The HCA uses its membership fees to pay for and maintain the ice rinks, the yearly winter festival they hold, the soccer program, and much more. They put out a monthly newsletter to keep the community informed about upcoming events and community-wide cooperative efforts.
Amenities near Hawkwood Real Estate
Hawkwood is perfectly situated to have excellent amenities on its doorstep. If there isn’t a store within the community, the Crowfoot Crossing complex is just a couple of minutes away. Hawkwood residents can simply walk over to the Arbour Lakeshopping complex, with dozens of shopping choices to make from stores, professional services, spots to eat and several other options.
There are 17 playgrounds with Hawkwood, squeezed into every corner and along every street. Kids have several options like Hawkford Playground and Hawkland Circle Playground to play and get involved with other children in the community.
There are also 5 baseball fields in the community such as Five Diamonds Baseball, hosting several games a night during the summer and is very busy during the weekend days. Hawkcliff Park and Hawkstone Field Playground are great places to ride bikes and walk dogs without feeling like it’s in the middle of a sprawling city. They offer several hills perfect for sledding and tobogganing during the winter.
There are also a couple of restaurants namely Hawkwood Palace Restaurant and Chicago Deep Dish Pizza - Calgary's Original. Beyond that, Hawkwood has quick access to the Stoney Trail ring road or to Country Hills Blvd to get to the airport in less than 20 minutes.
Schools near Hawkwood Homes for Sale
Hawkwood does have a few schools within its boundaries, but there are more options in the neighbouring communities of Edgemont and Arbour Lake. The schools include Hawkwood School, a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school with hundreds of students from the communities around Hawkwood. St. Mary Goretti School is a Catholic elementary offering K-6 Catholic education. High school students can attend the newly-opened Robert Thirsk High School, relieving the burden of senior high education in the northwest quadrant of Calgary.
St. Maria Goretti Elementary is currently ranked 104th in the province, providing a solid Catholic education to hundreds of students. Hawkwood Elementary is currently ranked 535th with over a quarter of the students coming from an ESL background.
