The number one feature for Arbour Lake residents is the lake which provides year-round entertainment for everyone. The lake has tennis courts, boating, and beachside playgrounds for the kids. During the summer, the lake is freshly stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Brown Trout, perfect for the angler in the family that enjoys a catch-and-release program. That fishing season extends into the winter season as ice fishermen drill holes in the ice to fish the lake in frigid temperatures. The beachfront, the lake, and the park equipment is clean, well-maintained, and managed by the Arbour Lake Residents Association.  

Besides the expansive lake area, several green spaces dot the community, giving the Arbour Lake real estate a close-to-nature feel. These green spaces include walking trails and large open fields for families to enjoy, as well as large baseball grounds and soccer fields for organized sports.

Schools near Arbour Lake Homes For Sale

Kids living in Arbour Lake have several options for schools. Grades 5-9 can attend the Arbour Lake School. High school-aged kids can attend the newly-opened Robert Thirsk High School. The Catholic St Ambrose School has students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. Although there is no Calgary public school system elementary school, the neighbouring communities of Hawkwood, Royal Oak, and Scenic Acres all have fantastic options for elementary students to attend. Robert Thirsk High School is currently ranked 128th by the Fraser Institute. St Ambrose is currently ranked 341st with above-average reporting from students compared to provincial standards.

Robert Thirsk High School opened in 2013, a much-needed high school option for Arbour Lake residents to choose from. The school is still growing each year with almost 500 Grade 12 students registered for this school year. It has a focus on special needs students and those with ESL (English as a Second Language) requirements. The school was named for Robert Thirsk, an astronaut who worked for the Canadian Space Agency. Thirsk has strong roots in Calgary, attending schools and university here. He holds the Canadian record for time in space and currently serves as the Chancellor for the University of Calgary. Arbour Lake is proud to honour a hometown hero with a school that bears his name.
