Deer Ridge Houses For Sale

It wasn’t long after Calgary expanded southwest that the area of Deer Ridge was pegged off to become a thriving community. In the late 70s, construction began on the many homes that would soon become this neighbourhood. The boundaries are defined by Canyon Meadows Dr, Bow Bottom Trail, Deer Run Blvd, and 146th Ave SW. As the community grew, it expanded to the borders of the Fish CReek Park and the Bow valley to the east.

The community of Deer Ridge is pretty compact, and we see that in the population statistics of residents here. Around 4000 people live in this small area, a densely-packed grouping of homes in all shapes and sizes. The community is mainly made up of single-family homes and townhomes. There are a few duplexes to be found as well. The community is pretty average in age, finding a good mixture of both the old and the young living here. This is also relevant to family dynamics, with older and younger families both enjoying living in Deer Ridge. In a key statistic, we see that around one-fifth of the population here has a first-generation Canadian background. This diversity is a key feature for those living here, with no one group represented much more than any other. We see this in education levels, average income, and other key points. Everybody is welcome and everyone has a place in Deer Ridge homes. 60% of the community has lived here for over 5 years, not keen on leaving a neighbourhood that they treasure so much.

The Deer Ridge Community Association builds better bridges between neighbours by offering a good program -based service to all residents. The association, run by volunteers, offers many things to its community, giving the people here a true united spirit. The association works with other associations nearby to represent the community to the council in municipal matters in this area. 

Deer Ridge Amenities

The neighbourhood of Deer Ridge is perfectly placed to enjoy several good amenities that are unique to this area. The community has access to several good shopping and restaurant options. The commercial complex here is an essential part of this area of Calgary and has shoppers come from all over to spend their money and buy essential supplies at Deer Valley Market Place and Tarik's No Frills.

One of the most powerful attractions to Deer Ridge has to be access to Deerfoot Trail. For those who must commute to work, especially to the downtown core, living here represents a good suburban neighbourhood with easy flow into the downtown core. Residents can easily move where they need to go on this key roadway. And while the community has good road access, it doesn’t feel busy, tucked away at the end of the Bow Bottom Trail giving homes here a quiet and relaxed feel.

Fish Creek Park and the Bow River parks here form the major options for those who want to get outside. The park and the river have trails ideal for walking dogs, biking, or cross country skiing. It can genuinely feel like you live outside of the city even though you’re simply a few minutes from your door. The community itself boast of several parks within their territory:

Deer Ridge Schools

For parents and students, Deer Ridge has good zoning options, allowing students a choice of the best school options. Don Bosco School is a good Catholic school for elementary students up to Grade 6, a faith-based alternative to Calgary public schools. The Deer Run School is also very well considered among parents living here. Other schools include Haultain Memorial School and Prince of Wales School in Parkland. All these schools share a similar approach to high academic values and good teacher-student ratios. The Fraser Institute ranks the Haultain Memorial school as 189th in the province, according to academic performance.
