The neighbourhood is situated in the southeast of Calgary, one of the first communities in this area of the city that went through major construction in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The community is still developing but the finished section of the community is a thriving part of this section of the city. Its borders are Stoney Trail, the Bow River, and Deerfoot Trail. Cranston is listed as one of the communities in Calgary with the highest number of preschool-aged children. Cranston School, Christ The King Catholic School, and Dr George Stanley School are within the community. Cranston School only has grades K-3 in their school, but have almost 600 enrolled students in just those grades. Christ The King is currently ranked in the top 100 schools by the Fraser Institute system.
