Homes For Sale in Mckenzie Lake

The community of McKenzie Lake represents one of the first neighbourhoods to have been developed by the city of Calgary as they focused on building in the southeast. The community had many firsts as a part of its development including roundabouts as standard in intersections, a central lake, and unique homes built in a new way. The community’s borders are marked by Highway 22X, Deerfoot Trail, the Bow River, and 130th Ave.

There are now over 14,000 people who make this their home. The community has been working hard to create a sense of belonging here and that is evident in the number of people living here long term. Of those 14,000 residents, 70% have lived in McKenzie Lake for over 5 years. Over 90% of the neighbourhood is made up of single-family homes, the number one choice by far for housing here. The rest of the options are found in a handful of duplexes and townhomes. This neighbourhood is unique for not having any apartments as a part of its development. Only 14% of the community is a first-generation Canadian, a smaller number than we’d expect to see in a normal Calgary community. The average resident here makes much more per year in their careers compared to other Calgary communities. The people here are neither older nor younger than other Calgarians, instead of falling right in the middle, a healthy balance between the growing families and the established older households. We see a large number of families who like living here, many with multiple children living in the home.

The McKenzie Lake Community Association has been active for a couple of decades, working to build community and foster a sense of pride in the people here. The association, built entirely off the efforts of volunteers, has been busily working to offer events, programs, and initiatives for the residents here. They also oversee the management of the private lake and park in the neighbourhood.

Amenities near Mckenzie Lake Real Estate

The community has been sitting on prime real estate for decades. The major attraction has to be the lake around which the community is named. McKenzie Lake is a private lake accessible only to residents who hold memberships. This lake has rentals for boats, paddleboards, and several other watercraft. Throughout the year, there is skating, swimming, hockey, and several activities around the water as well. The population enjoys lake access and it’s a driving force behind real estate sales.

The community has unprecedented access to major roads like Deerfoot Trail. The community is centred on a major roadway that carries commuters into the downtown core and beyond should the need arise. For commuters, there is also the option of several public buses as well as a planned C-Train line which will run past the community.

Fish Creek Park and the Bow River from the major points of interest of residents here. The community can enjoy these public grounds for biking, walking, and cross country skiing as well. There is also McKenzie Meadows Golf Club for residents to use. It’s a challenging course that is close by, a great alternative for after-work hours and easy driving range access.
