Midnapore Houses For Sale

The founding of the name “Midnapore” is interesting, as it’s named for a small city in India’s northeast region. Some say that a package was mislabeled and arrived here. Others claim it was named by a former British captain who was stationed in Midnapore, India. As a town, it thrived due to the rich landscape it occupied and proximity to Calgary. Nothing has changed today. The community’s borders ar Macleod Trail, Sun Valley Blvd, and Fish Creek Park. It was the Bow valley that originally attracted the first settlers here, and this continues with home buyers in Midnapore today.

The community is probably larger than it first seems. It houses over 7500 residents in this neighbourhood. The majority housing options are primarily single-family houses for the many families that live here as well as an equal measure of townhomes, apartments, and duplexes. Only 16% of the community is made up of first-generation Canadians. The neighbourhood attracts a very average cross-section of Calgary, wih people making here roughly the same as anywhere else in their careers, ad employed at the same rates as elsewhere. The community offers a good home retention rate with over 60% of the population choosing to live in the same house for at least 5 years from their purchase date. The neighbourhood’s value is too appealing to let go. It’s a slightly older community that lives here, a more-established feel is certainly present in the large trees and older homes that one might find. The community also has a distinct feel of privacy and exclusivity, even though the real estate values allow anybody to buy here. It’s a home to older families, especially for those who’ve had children leave home and grow older.  

The Midnapore Community Association is responsible for monitoring the lake access for residents, plus a number of other activities. They include movie nights by the lake, family events, barbecues and breakfasts, and several community intiatives to maintain the cleanliness that residents value so much.

Midnapore Amenities

For those who wonder what else Midnapore has to offer, it’s the same tht it has been for over 00 years. With several homes that back on to Fish Creek Park, it’s the primary focus for much of the community. There are several trails that wind down into the park, giving bike paths and walking trails in the beautiful and peaceful park. It’s a retreat from the city within the city itself. It’s rare to say this, but the private lake in the community is almost secondary to the provincial park right next door. Access to the lake is for residents only with an attached annual fee to keep the place looking good and properly maintained. The park and lake are great destinations year round and offer residents a place to connect and relax.

The community of Midnapore does have its town shopping complex, a good mixture of services, shops, and speciality locations. There are great ethnic cuisines, good local businesses, and professional medical centres designed to meet Midnapore residents right here. Beyond that, the Shawnessy shopping complex is right next door, completing the available retail needs for anybody.

By living along Macleod Trail, the community enjoys access to great transportation. The road is a one-stop entry point that feeds directly into the downtown core. Beyond that, there are at least two C-Train stations within easy reach for residents, the Shawnessy and Fish Creek stations. They offer commuters a simple way to get anywhere in the city, a service that efficiently transports over 100 million riders every year.

Midnapore Schools 

As for schools, it’s spoiled for choice here. Midnapore School is an elementary school that has classes from kindergarten through to Grade 6. It offers a unique and local education option. Other schools include St Teresa of Calcutta School, Centennial High School, and Trinity Christian School as a good private schooling option. St Teresa School is exceptionally well recognized and ranked by the Fraser Institute as 25th in the entire province.
