South West Calgary Communities
As we examine the best houses for sale in Calgary SW, we need to first figure out what is your most important need to buy a new home. Is it to get your foot in the real estate market? Are you looking for good investment properties? Do you need good access to downtown? Schools? Shopping? Transportation? All factors come into play, and we can make some recommendations on the communities that will best fit your needs.
To be close to the action downtown, we can start by looking at Killarney, Beltline, or South Calgary. These are the homes of some very interesting townhouses. Although the communities might be older, developers have been steadily revitalising the neighbourhoods with brand new townhomes in the place of the older houses that once stood there. These communities have some of the finest homes, luxury properties right near the downtown core for those who need to commute regularly.
Or maybe you’d prefer a quieter neighbourhood, one that is geared towards families. We can find great townhouses in neighbourhoods like Canyon Meadows or Bridlewood. The prices on these houses can be much more affordable than downtown properties without compromising on space or convenience. These communities have some of the best schooling districts and offer residents a safe community to thrive and grow.
But if you need a mixture of convenience, contemporary design, and access to the best of the city, may we suggest communities like Signal Hill or Altadore. These neighbourhoods are modern and hip with everything that you’d need right around you. These vibrant neighbourhoods are full of life, giving residents every excuse to stay in the area once they first buy a home here.
Southwest Calgary Amenities

Look at communities in the southern part of the city, and you’ll be close to Fish Creek Park, a major provincial park right in the heart of the city. Homes around here offer the resident a chance to play and enjoy the park, it’s kilometres of trails, its pristine surroundings, and it’s amenities like fire pits, and picnic tables throughout.
More interesting in shopping? This section of the city has it in spades. Major shopping here includes Chinook Centre, Calgary’s largest indoor mall with more development and retail space planned for the near future. The shopping complex in Westhills is a destination for many Calgarians, and living next to here is a real feature of the city.
Need good transit options? The C-train line is never far from any south west community, offering world-class public transit for close to 100 million riders every single year. The tracks take commuters into the downtown core and offer many people the chance to live outside the core even though they work there.
Calgary SW Schools

Look to schools like Glenmore Christian Academy, a private school in Bridlewood that has classes from Kindergarten to Grade 9. Or for good public schools, look to Father Doucet School in Shawnessy. This school is an elementary school in the Catholic system offering first-rate, faith-based education that is ranked in the top 10 across Alberta by the Fraser Institute.
