These dual communities have been a major part of the development of the southeast of Calgary. Homes here have lasted for over 30 years with many of them built in the early 1990s when the community was first developed. The boundaries to this neighbourhood mainly feature around the Fish Creek Park borders. There is also Deerfoot Trail, 130th Ave SE, and Douglas Glen Heights. Sister community Deer Ridge is located just over the Bow from these communities.
The population found here is nearly 13,000 in number. Many of these residents have enjoyed living in Douglasdale/Glen for several years. Over 75% of the population has lived in their homes for over 5 years, and a solid proportion of those living here for at least 10 years. This is a community designed for longevity and settling down. The majority of the neighbourhoods are made up of single-family homes with several townhomes and duplexes filling up the space as well. A couple apartment building supply affordable housing to those who don’t need the space of a large house. This tends toward a more mature community, with the average household age skewing older than the rest of Calgary’s average. The population has 20% of its make up derived from first-generation Canadians. This diversity is resented well within the neighbourhood, typifying what normal Calgary communities look like. The DouglasQuarry Community Association works with homes in Douglasdale, Douglas Glen and Quarry Park to unite the people living here. The shopping is so close and yet this area attracts visitors from all over the south of Calgary. The community has a large number of industrial and commercial buildings nearby as well.
Not 5 minutes away is the South Health Campus, Calgary’s newest hospital in the city. The hospital is the a prime example of state-of-the-art facilities with incredible accessibility to the communities around here. The hospital attracts world-class doctors and medical research done right here. Douglasdale/Glen residents are never far from treatment that rivals the best in the world.
Although the neighbourhoods here have a high number of older families, school systems cater to this are very well. Douglasdale School has classes from Kindergarten to Grade 4. The classes are full with over 350 students enrolled in these classes alone. Monsignor JS Smith School is a Catholic elementary school for classes up to Grade 6 It is ranked by the Fraser Institute ranking system as 499th in the province.
Other schools nearby include McKenzie Towne School, St Albert the Great Elementary, Mountain Park School, and Lord Beaverbrook High School for the senior high school students living here.
