Calgary School Upgrades and Approvals

Following the results of study, research, and growth, the Calgary Board of Education has announced major upgrades to 12 schools and proposed 10 new schools around the city. These suggestions and proposals were submitted to the trustees of the CBE for approval earlier this year. The board quickly ratified the proposal and sent it to the province of Alberta for review and approval.

The review process, which takes 12 months, will allow Alberta to plan for budgetary changes, review the proposals, visit the sites mentioned in the announcement and make their final decision in March 2019.

Calgary Council Agrees to 14 New Communities

Just before a well-deserved summer break, Calgary city council made the approval official for 14 new communities around the perimeter of the city. Over the course of 10 years, the city has approved the development to begin in a bid to curb the housing crisis Calgary will face should its growth continue expanding.

Calgary’s latest housing decision means an increase of 27,000 new constructions, two-thirds of which are single-family homes. Originally, the council had been discussing the approval of just 11 communities, but 3 additional communities were proposed and approved. This also means tens of thousands of jobs in the next decade or two.

Calgary Is Ranked Most Liveable Canadian City

We did it, guys! We’re number 4! We’re number 4! Let the gloating begin.

What are we celebrating? Calgary has just been named the top liveable Canadian city this year by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Rankings 2018. Calgary has always been featured pretty highly on the list, but Vancouver has held the best city in Canada for many years now.

Calgary’s ranking of number 4 in the word places it behind Vienna, Melbourne, and Osaka. Calgary comes in 4th in the world with a ranking of 97.5 points out of a possible 100. Other Canadian cities in the top ten include Vancouver and Toronto, which currently sit at 6th and 7th place respectively.
