How to Avoid Panic When Moving in Calgary

Do you like stress?
It is safe to say that no one would say yes to that question!
House shopping and finding a new home is super fun and exciting, but when it comes to moving, it can get quite stressful! We have some tips for how you can avoid stress and the panic that can come with it when moving.
Come up with a Plan
Many clients have talked to our team members saying that they are just randomly searching and checking what’s available in the market. Then suddenly, they find the perfect house for their family!
Moving into a new home should not be all about emotions. You have to pause for a while to create a plan. Like in anything, not having a plan can induce so much stress and panic.
Often, what causes panic is the state of the unknown. Having a plan can shine a light on the uncomfortable unknown situation or any underlying factors that you didn’t realize upfront when purchasing your new home.
If you don’t know where to start your plan, the best thing you can do is to download our free moving up guide. This guide has great insight on what to expect when moving so you can plan better.
Know your Situation
Before jumping ahead, you first have to know your situation and where you are with your house, finances and relationships. When you know where you are at it is easier to plan where you want to go.
Knowing where you are will prepare you to quickly take action when you find your dream home. To understand where you are, you need to know the current value of your home and what the market is doing in your area. It also helps when you have a long-term goal that you can consider for decision-making.
At the Chamberlain Real Estate Group, we have a tool called Homebeat. Basically, a homebeat is an automated email sent to you monthly containing a report about all the sales activity comparable to your property.
Homebeat is a handy tool that you can even customize with the help of your realtor. You can request to set up specific information about your needs so you are well informed when the time comes that you need to make your next move.
Another great thing to do is keep a running idea of what you want to have in your next or final home. Have conversations with your spouse or family members about what they would love to have in the future. This way, you will have your list of criteria ready when you start house shopping.
Communication
You need to have conversations with key people before planning your next move. As mentioned earlier, you need to talk to your family members, especially your spouse. If you have a co-signer or other people who will be involved in the buying process, you have to talk to them as well because often people want to have a bit of input when they are co-signing.
Dealing with Different Issues
For some, moving is their way of dealing with different issues in life or in their relationships. This is something that goes beyond real estate, but our team has helped many people go through this type of situation.
The biggest thing is knowing why you want to move. Are you moving because it will help you and your family function better in life, or are you moving because you think it will make you happier in your situation?
At the end of the day, your house is still a material possession, and your home is what you live in. Moving might bring a sense of joy for a moment, but it is not necessarily the solution. An external thing cannot solve an internal problem. And sometimes that internal problem is a bad relationship, discomfort with who you were with or past trauma, which will not be solved by moving to a new house.
More than having a beautiful house, we at the Chamberlain Group believe that it is more important to be healthy and have good relationships.
Wanting More Than You Can Afford
The last thing that we have seen happening a lot is people having bigger eyes than what their pockets can afford.
Everybody loves nice things like beautiful houses and fancy cars. All those things are attractive, but it is essential to know your budget. Live under your means to avoid panic or any financial trouble.
Talk to a mortgage broker, check your credit score and know where you stand financially so you know how much money you can put into a new home.
