The community of West Springs sits in the southwest quadrant of Calgary. This is in the very western edge of the city and provides a magnificent view of the skyline as well as the mountains to the west, People here value their privacy and seclusion, living on large lots of land. The neighbourhood has been a growing part of Calgary for just over 10 years, but already has expanded to be one of the largest communities of the city. Its borders are Old Banff Coach Rd, Bow Trail, Coach Hill Rd, and the Calgary border to the West.
The community already has grown to include over 9000 residents, certainly a contender for one of the largest newest communities in the city. The community has almost one-quarter of its population made up of immigrants, a large proportion of whom come from Asia and European nations. There is a very distinct type of people living here. The main option for housing is the single-family home. Many of these homes are luxury houses built in the last 10 years. But there are also several smaller options available to families and new home buyers. The average wage here is double that which Calgarians normally earn. That statistic is backed up by the education levels of this neighbourhood. 76% hold a degree from a post-secondary institution of some sort. The West Springs Cougar Ridge Community Association has tens of thousands of residents to care for, and they it well. This new association is volunteer run and led, an association that’s main goal is to unite and strengthen these communities into one of the most desirable places to live in Calgary. West Springs Amenities
The residents living here enjoy some of the finest amenities in the whole city. The best of which is the view. Westward facing houses have incredible views of the city, unspoiled by any developments or buildings. There is unparalleled access into the city as well. Bow Trail, one of the natural borders of the community sees that commuters get into the city in minutes, a necessary perk for many of the residents that work in the downtown core. But one coming feature will drive prices very high once completed. The Stoney Trail ring road is due to pass by the community proving unlimited access to the rest of Calgary on one road. This road is due to be completed in 2021 and will unite communities in a way that hasn’t existed beforehand.
As for activities, trails and paths snake through the community, providing great access for bikers and walkers to enjoy the outdoors. The modern design of this community has necessitated that there be less fencing and more choices for outdoor activities. Residents can always travel to Edworthy Park or Shouldice Athletic Park for recreation. West Springs does have a bevy of school options close by. These include top ranking schools in the public and private systems. West Springs School is a K-4 school that offers smaller class sizes and increased focus on academic success. West Ridge School is its companion, a 5-9 program that continues where West Springs School leaves off. St Joan of Arc School is a new Catholic education school for students aged Kindergarten through to Grade 9. This faith-based school is rising in rankings year after year as it improves its academic performance. Closer schools include Dr Roberta Bondar School, Ernest Manning High School, and the prestigious Webber Academy. This school is ranked number one in the province and consistently provides better opportunities and higher class education.
