The pathways allow walkers, runners, and bikers to travel many kilometres along the river’s shores, all the way into to downtown Calgary and beyond. Shouldice Aquatic Centre is just south of the community, a large centre with a 25-metre lap pool, a dive pool, and diving boards.
The University of Calgary’s campus also borders Varsity, a campus that educates over 30,000 students every year. The campus is extensive, covering more square feet than the downtown Calgary core. Many buildings in this campus are used by Varsity occupants such as the Olympic Oval, MacEwan Hall, and MacMahon Stadium. These are prime Calgary venues that are visited by people from all corners of the city. Varsity residents have them on their back door.
Within Varsity, several great schools offer competitive educational programs to the residents here. F.E. Osborne Junior High School, Marion Carson Elementary, Varsity Acres Bilingual Elementary, and St Vincent de Paul School, which has Kindergarten through to Grade 9. These schools are rated very well by the Calgary school board and Catholic school board. High school students can attend William Aberhart High School or Bowness High School, both very reputable choices with a range of academic programs.
Marion Carson is an exceptional school, ranking 41st in the entire province, excelling in student to teacher ratios and various programs for the students to choose from. According to the Fraser Institute, Varsity Acres School ranks 128th in the province, a respectable score considering the number of students in the school.
