The community of Silver Springs is defined by the borders of the Bow River to its south, the Highway 1A on its north and Nose Hill Drive down one side. The community shares its border with the golf course set on the south side of the neighbourhood, a large green area that extends to Varsity on the East.

The inhabitants of Silver Springs are comfortable with large homes and good-sized lots of land. 73% of the homes in Silver Springs are single-family houses with townhouses making up a sizable chunk of the other dwellings. Because of the older generation that live here, the median income of Silver Springs is higher than the normal Calgarian. Most residents here have older families and have created well-established careers.

The Silver Spring Community Association serves to make this neighbourhood a better place to live. They do that by hosting several events throughout the year like Stampede breakfasts, a parade of garage sales, community-wide clean-ups, and initiating many more activities. The association is also responsible for ensuring that community has programs like dancing classes, swimming lessons, sports teams, and child care. 

Silver Springs Amenities

Silver Springs is dominated by green spaces. The entire southern edge of the community is either riverside parks or golf course land. This includes Bowmont Park, a major municipal park system within Silver Springs’ borders. This contributes to a feel that Silver Springs is less city living or more country suburb. The Silver Springs Golf and Country Club is a premier destination for all Calgarian golfers, offering a competitive game on manicured greens. The test of the course is enough to challenge any skill level.

Silver Springs offers places of worship for many northwest residents to attend. There is the St Peters Roman Catholic Church, Lifegate Chapel, and a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints campus as well. There are local businesses all throughout Silver Springs such as a fitness centre, a car dealership, and several little shopping plazas all throughout the neighbourhood.

The access to the Bow River also grants residents another option for outdoor living. The river can accommodate boating and swimming in the summer, skating in the winter, and world-famous fishing all throughout the year. The river has kilometres of paths that can take someone all the way into the downtown of Calgary if they continued along the shores.

The Crowfoot C-Train station is a just few minutes’ walk from the community, as well as the many stores at Crowfoot Crossing. This complex is large and multifaceted. It has speciality shops, banks, grocery stores, and a 12-screen Cineplex Odeon movie theatre. There are also several dining options from ethnic cuisine to fast food to neighbourhood pubs.

Silver Springs Schools

Living in Silver Springs has many advantages, one of which is the school system o which it belongs Several options are located in and surrounding the neighbourhood so parents can make the best choice for their children’s education. There is St Sylvester School, Silver Springs School, Silver Springs Preschool, and WO Mitchell School. Those schools are located within the Silver Springs boundary, but there are several more options in Bowness to the South. They include Bowness High School, Belvedere Parkway School, Thomas B Riley School, and Our Lady of the Assumption School. All these options come with residence in the Silver Springs community.

Our Lady of the Assumption is a solid choice for Catholic education, currently ranking in 308th place overall. St. Sylvester is ranking at 225th in the province, a good choice as well in the Catholic school board. Belvedere Parkway registers at 549th while WO Mitchell ranks at 499th overall in the province, according to the rankings provided by the Fraser Institute.
