The prestige of living in Royal Oak is a draw for many Calgary residents and the community is still developing new homes to this day. With access to the mountains and to the rest of Calgary, the commute is a lot closer than most people think. That, along with several in-community amenities makes Royal Oak an enviable address to have in northwest Calgary.

Royal Oak Houses For Sale

Royal Oak is a fairly new community, with many of its homes built after the year 2000. Even so, some of the older homes are undergoing renovations and extensions to keep up with the new developments that have popped up. There are over 80% single-family homes with new apartments and modern townhomes spread out through the community. The community is, on average, younger than the rest of Calgary, with a higher median income than the city standard levels. Almost one-third of the community is made up of first-generation Canadians, many of them re-establishing groups of like-minded people in Royal Oak.

The community of Royal Oak sits on the north-western side of the ring road of Stoney Trail. From this community to the airport, it’s less than a 20-minute drive. Its position on Highway 1A allows people to be within the Kananaskis in just over 45 minutes. The Rocky Ridge Royal Oak Community Association exists to care for and monitor the wellbeing of the community. It provides many events throughout the year such as Stampede breakfasts, community clean-ups, and a parade of garage sales. The association runs children’s programs, friendly sporting leagues, and hosts a block party each year.  

Royal Oak Amenities

Royal Oak real estate is well serviced by the amenities in the area. Many of its best resources are within the community boundaries themselves. The Royal Oak Centre is just such an example, giving the residents access to over 70 shopping choices.

Residents can eat at fast food places, restaurants, pubs, or cafes. There are clothing stores, supermarkets, and banks. Professional services and medical clinics also make up the centre's many offerings. Because it is set outside the ring road, the shopping complex almost feels exclusive to Royal Oak.

Just a 10-minute drive away is the city-wide popular CrossIron Mills, a large outlet mall that has many designer and label store at deeply discounted prices. This unique mall is simple for Royal Oak residents to get to along the Stoney Trail ring road.

The designers and developers of Royal Oak real estate wanted to maintain as much natural feel as they could, so they included several wetlands as a part of the natural spaces in the community. There are several ponds that bring in wildlife from all over, giving the citizens of Royal Oak a vantage to see flora and fauna of Canada in their backyard. Natural Ravine Park, Tara Field Park, and Arad Park are all large spaces with trails and waterways throughout Royal Oak.

Royal Oak Schools

In Royal Oak, students have access to great schools in a fortunate district. Royal Oak School has just four grades and maintains a focus on strong classroom bonds with great student and teacher ratios. The Kindergarten to Grade 3 student base has been so successful that they’ve resisted any growth to maintain a focus on excellence and a personal approach. William D Pratt School has a unique Grade 4-9 student body, bringing kids from upper elementary all the way through to beginning at high school. High school students can attend Robert Thirsk High School, one of the only public high schools in this section of the northwest. It’s located in the next community over at Arbour Lake.

Many of the schools in Royal Oak are too new or too small to have received any ranking over the province-wide ranking system provided by the Fraser Institute.
