Richmond is in Calgary’s southwest quadrant and straddles Crowchild Trail on either side of the road. It’s northern edge is 17th Ave and its southern tip is 33rd Ave SW. The communities of Garrison, Currie, and Bankview all border this community. It contains the Richmond Green Golf Course on just touches a border of the trendy Marda Loop business district.
The people of Richmond are slightly higher-class than the standard Calgarian. Many of the Calgary’s elite like to live in Richmond for its upscale homes and incredible access to the downtown centre area. The demographics tell us what the people are like who live here. Richmond has grown to include 4500 residents, an increase in the past few years. The community is dominated by single-family homes with large yards, and those homes are slowly decreasing as newer duplexes and townhomes pop up in their place. Developer love using the large blocks of land to put modern duplexes on site. The majority of the population live as couples, many with children at home. The income of the community is slightly lower than average, with many residents holding post-secondary degrees. In actual fact, only 6% of the community does not hold a high school diploma or greater. 17% of the demographics are immigrants, first-generation movers to this country from many different countries. This makes Richmond a diverse, multicultural neighbourhood that welcomes all.
The Richmond Knob Hill Community Association serves the thousands of residents here by linking them together to form a greater voice for the city. They also use programs and course and events to bring people together and allow the residents of Richmond to get to know each other.
Richmond offer plenty of opportunities and activities for those who live here. Marda Loop is just off one corner of the neighbourhood. It was once the site of the city tram, and has now developed into a trendy, popular locale for many of Calgary’s local businesses to gather. Commuters can also head to the Core Shopping Centre just a few minutes’ away to find greater shopping options and dining choices. The community obviously borders 17th Ave, a central hub of nightlife and entertainment for Calgary. Many of Calgary’s hottest, most sought-after stores are located along this strip of shopping. The street continues like this all the way into the Stampede Park grounds.
The Richmond Green Golf Course is a popular public course. This par 3 course offers beginners a chance to enjoy the game and families an opportunity to play together. They also offer club rentals for those who make bookings ahead of time. The Shaganappi Point Golf Course is just down Crowchild Trail, a public course that offers more challenge to those who seek it. Within the community, there are several trails and paths for residents to use, biking and walking the streets in safety and security.
Travel is easy in Richmond. Crowchild Trails leads directly into the city centre and to the north of Calgary as well. Although the C-Train stations are not close, there are several bus lines that operate throughout the community, taking people directly to their home’s front door easily and safely.
Within Richmond can be found a number of good schools that appeal to the exacting nature of the parents and students living here. The options include North Point School for Boys, an exclusive school with extensive programs like hockey, business, engineering, finance, and advanced classes in academics. There is also Ecole Holt Couture, a school of sewing and design, the Calgary Arts Academy teaching the curriculum through the medium of the fine arts, and Richmond Elementary, a Kindergarten through to Grade 6 school.
