The community of Redstone is a new neighbourhood in Calgary northeast corner. The community ha been set aside for development for several years, but it’s only been in the past 5 years that much work has happened here. The community is a master-planned neighbourhood with much thought and attention to detail going into the community, more than just homes and streets. The boundaries for Redstone are Stoney Trail, 128th Ave NE, Metis Trail, and Redstone Blvd.
The community of Redstone is too new to have much data. Currently, the population has exploded in the past 5 years from a couple hundred early residents to now over 5,000 people. That number is still growing as the community continues to develop to add several hundred more homes and apartment units. This is the way of life here, a combination of single-family homes and apartments alongside several townhouses and duplexes. The community is appealing to new families, those looking for affordable housing with good community atmosphere. The population has more diversity than most Calgary communities, a neighbourhood where a visible minority is seen more often than not. These residents have a tendecy to be younger than most families here. The population is very new and has high percentages of young children, many even pre-school aged. The community is fairly low on the income levels, but we do see a correlation between first-generation Canadians and lower education levels. The community has the potential to have longevity for the resident, but that remains to be seen.
The Redstone community does not yet have its own association, although it's in the infancy stages as of yet. Right now, the association works alongside the builders and developers, continuing to attract interest from other home buyers. They do this with several block parties, good family fun events, and many outdoor activities to bring in outsiders to see what Redstone has to offer. The association will then transition to building better bonds to the people and the community they live in.
For those who love access, the community of Redstone will turn out to be a great thing. It’s set right near the Calgary International Airport. For those who love to travel (or have to) the proximity to this airport hub is a great answer to the question of where to live in Calgary. The Redstone residents can be at the airport’s terminals in under 10 minutes, unheard of in other areas of the city. That’s possible with the help of Metis Trail and Stoney Trail, major routes that run alongside the neighbourhood here.
The community has the best shopping in the city right at their door. The CrossIron Mills located a couple minutes away is the largest shopping plaza in the area. The city is lucky to have this incredible location, several square kilometers dedicated to major name brands and necessity shopping. Residents love how close their homes are to this plaza and all the unique stores found here.
For those wanting something outside, the community of Redstone has been planned to suit your needs. Over 2.3 kms of trails and pathways snake their way through the community, in between homes and around the parks and playgrounds here. These paths are perfect places to bike and walk during the day. Kids love using them year-round and they will become a major feature in the neighbourhood as the development wraps up.
As the families move in, so do the need of good schooling options. Here, we have Apostles of Jesus School, Notre Dame High School, Ascension of Our Lord School, Panorama Hills School, and Peter Lougheed School. Many of these schools target the younger children and offer good options for academic success. Notre Dame High School is ranked in the top 50 high schools in the province, offering exceptional classes in academics, fine arts, and many other specialised programs.
