Homes For Sale in Woodlands
The community of Woodlands is located in the southwest quadrant of Calgary. The neighbourhood was first annexed in 1965 and then soon developed into the neighbourhood we know today. The community has just one neighbour, Woodbine, and shares many of its attributes and similarities with that community as well. The boundaries to Woodlands are Fish Creek Park, the Canyon Meadows Golf Course, Anderson Rd, and 24th St SW.
The community of Woodlands is not as populous as other communities and so we get to see a more accurate portrayal of the average household and what they value about living here. 6000+ residents call this their home, a small number compared to similar communities like Evergreen (21,000) or Canyon Meadows (12,000). The community chooses to live in single-family detached houses, the majority choice for residents of Woodlands.
The remaining options are equally divided between townhomes and apartments and duplexes. Of the homes here, we find tremendous real estate set on premium land to affordable housing that’s available and accessible to the average house owner. The community is more mature than most, a community with older residents and more established family sizes. Most households have older children or kids who've left home. The community has one-fifth of its population made up of immigrants from many different nationalities. The normal household here has lived in their home for over 5 years, at least two-thirds of the population adhering to that fact.
The Woodcreek Community Association meets regularly to plan, monitor, and oversee events that bind the community together. They have, in the past, activated such initiatives as fitness classes, religious services, children's events, adult education, and many more activities. The association is responsible for both Woodlands and Woodbine, so they keep very busy representing the communities to the city council as well.
Amenities near Woodlands Real Estate
The neighbourhood enjoys its position in Calgary primarily because Fish Creek Park is so close. Many residents can simply walk down from their homes into the park in a few minutes. It’s a major attraction for residents to bike, cross country ski, jog, or simply enjoy the park. Bebo Grove, which is a popular location in the provincial park, has fire pits and tables to enjoy a warm fire and a picnic on a cold winter day. Canyon Meadows Golf Course is right beside the community, an exclusive course that is one of the top courses in the province.
The community enjoys pretty good access to the rest of Calgary along Anderson Rd or 14th St. These major roads provide an entry in points like Deerfoot Trail or the downtown core. The community is eagerly awaiting the completion of a ring road that will further connect the people here. The Stoney Trail ring road, complete in 2022, will allow many residents the chance to travel quickly around the city, something that hasn’t been open to them at all in the past.
As for shopping, the community values the proximity of local shops in Woodbine and Woodlands as well as Southcentre Mall just down the road. This, more than anything else, is the central point for much of the shopping done by residents here. They love the professional services and restaurants that can be found nearby as well.
Schools near Woodlands Homes for Sale
Because there are parents of every aged child here, the demand for schools in Woodlands is high. That’s good because the schools here accommodate all students equally well. Woodlands School offers classes up to Grade 6, and an early French immersion program as well. The school ranks well for its academic courses, currently sitting at 115th in the province, according to the Fraser Institute ranking system. We also see William Roper Hull School, which offers classes for students with behavioural and emotional needs that normal schools can’t cope with. The primary selection for high school students is Dr EP Scarlett High School, which offers a good balance of athletics, arts, and academics for all students. The school ranks at 36th in the province.
