The community of Tuxedo park stretches east to west from Edmonton Trail to 2nd St NW. This long corridor extends from the Trans-Canada Highway up to 32nd Ave NW. On either side are the prestigious neighbourhoods of Mount Pleasant and Winston Heights – Mountview.
The community of Tuxedo Park is deceivingly large, as it actually contains almost 5000 of Calgary’s residents. The community has a wide variety of people. The predominant choice for home is a single-family house, but that can vary from the simple bungalow to the extremely luxurious developments of late.
The rest are a mixture of apartments, townhomes, and duplexes. All the apartment blocks are small low-rises, not densely populated but rather quite sparse and spacious. These options offer first home buyers an easy way to get access to this community.
Over one-fifth of the population are immigrants. There isn’t one single people group but rather a true mixture of many different cultures blending together in Tuxedo Park. The income is slightly less than Calgary’s average and the education levels are slightly lower than the surrounding neighbourhoods as well. Just about half of the population here have lived in their homes for over 5 years, a good sign that when people buy a home in Tuxedo Park, they tend to like it.
The community association for Tuxedo Park is a warm and welcoming volunteer organization. They offer fitness classes, English as a Second Language classes, dance studios, and several community meet-ups during the year. They strive to make everyone feel welcome, no matter who they are.
Amenities near Tuxedo Park Real Estate
One of the benefits of living in Tuxedo Park is the access people get to everywhere else in the city. The Trans-Canada Highway means residents can get to Deerfoot Trail or the mountains quite simply. The Centre St access point into the downtown core is another favourite of the residents here. They can be in the downtown core in just a few minutes for work, shopping, or pleasure.
The community sits next to a couple of parks and public spaces. One of which is Confederation Park. This public space is a popular choice for many with ball diamonds, picnic areas, cross country skiing, tobogganing, and tennis courts. There is the Confederation Park Golf Course as well, a public 9-hole course that provides a reasonable challenge and a pleasant game. Fox Hollow Golf Course is just to the east, a reputable private course that draws in players from all over Alberta. This course is immaculate and exquisitely maintained.
Besides having great access to the Core Shopping Centre, residents can ship at North Hill Centre along the Trans-Canada Highway, This mall has every convenience and amenity needed, including a supermarket, several eating options, and a fitness centre. For residents who don't want to go far, they can find Safeway Beacon Heights Shopping Centre within the community.
Because of its location, Tuxedo Park is home to many students from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. SAIT has been a Calgary education centre for almost 100 years and continues to offer courses such as hospitality, construction, and public health and safety.
Schools near Tuxedo Park Homes for Sale
Tuxedo Park has a couple schools within the community and many more choices in the neighbouring areas. Balmoral School is a Junior High with students from Grade 5-9. St Joseph School is in the Catholic education system, a school for students from Kindergarten through to Grade 9. King George Elementary is a popular choice, a French immersion school with students arriving from all over the northwest of Calgary. James Fowler High School is one of the designated senior high schools for this area. Georges P Vanier School is a junior high school with a distinguished French immersion program as well.
