Spruce Cliff is located in Calgary’s southwest quadrant, more technically central and west than south. It sits along the mighty Bow River, one of the early communities of Calgary, a historical location for many of Calgary’s first homes. You can still see that character here when looking for the perfect place to live. This community is bordered by the Bow River, Shaganappi Point Golf Course, Bow Trail, and 38th St SW. Much of the community is open parks, devoid of housing or developments, remaining a place for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
There are currently 4500 resident living here, of which one-quarter of them are immigrants. These people are first-generation Canadians, moving here to be a part of the greater community of Calgary. Many small groups of nationalities like to gather here and form their own miniature communities. Notably, this area includes a large Greek population that formed the Hellenic Society right here in Spruce Cliff.
On average, people here earn slightly less than the Calgary standard. They tend to have smaller family sizes as well. The community is by far more geared towards small family units with the main housing option being the apartments and condos throughout the neighbourhood. There are a few single-family homes, and these can vary between bungalow style housing to newer developments in recent years. The Spruce Cliff Community Association looks after the people here. Established over 65 years ago, this association has been building strong communities for almost as long as Spruce Cliff existed. They offer great events, communal initiatives that help strengthen the bonds between neighbours here. It’s one of the key reasons people are attracted to living in Spruce Cliff.
Amenities near Spruce Cliff Real Estate
The Spruce Cliff people have a lot to be thankful for when they live here. First, it’s one of the few communities that has direct access to the downtown area by several different means. They have Bow Trail which is the most obvious entry point into the downtown core. Shopping, business, and exceptional dining are available in minutes along this entry road. Residents can also choose to walk or bike into the downtown centre, the trails here along the Bow River providing a green alternative to commuting into the city. Residents can also use the C-Train station near Westbrook Mall, an efficient way to travel into and around the city. As for other locations, Crowchild Trail is very close to connecting Spruce Cliff to the rest of the city’s north and south communities.
The neighbourhood is the entry point for the Douglas Fir Trail, a natural pathway system that travels 2.5 kilometres along the river and into the downtown area. The trails along the river also connect the communities with Lawrey Gardens, a preserved natural garden with many examples of local wildlife and flora.
Schools near Spruce Cliff Homes for Sale
Spruce Cliff schools include many options nearby that both students and parents will approve of. Wildwood School is an elementary school serving students ranging from Kindergarten through to Grade 6. There is also Vincent Massey School, Rosscarrock School, and Alexander Ferguson School. The nearest high schools include Queen Elizabeth High School or Central Memorial High School.
Wildwood School is currently ranked 324th in the province. It offers regular education programs. A school like Rosscarrock School offers a Spanish bilingual program to meet the growing need for Spanish speakers in Calgary.
