Homes For Sale in Monterey Park

The community of Monterey Park is a part of Calgary’s northeast neighborhoods, a community that sits on the very edge of the residential suburban areas of the city. Although the industrial parks to the east lie just outside the community’s borders, there is enough distance that it never even makes a mention on the residents minds. The boundaries of this residential neighbourhood are the Trans-Canada highway, Stoney Trail, 68th St NE, and McKnight Blvd.

The community of Monterey Park is comprised of over 10,000 residents, certainly one of the largest neighbourhoods in the area. There are several options for housing here, but for the residents, they seem to prefer the single-family. Three-quarters of the options are the detached housing, maybe to allow for the room a growing family would need. The other options include several townhomes, duplexes, and a couple apartments to round out the choices. The people here are made up of a variety of nations and races, around 52% coming from immigrant backgrounds. This proportion makes it much higher in diversity than many other neighborhoods in Calgary. There are more residents from a visible minority here than anywhere else. The average income earned here is on par with what the rest of Calgary makes, a higher economic class of resident choosing to live in Monterey Park. The community also values good education, showing higher proportions of degrees and certificates found here. We know that the community does appreciate this neighbourhood, the vast majority living in the neighbourhood for at least 5 years. This significance isn’t lost on future homeowners who vie for new property quickly when it is listed. This is an average community in terms of age as well, most Calgarians falling in the same age brackets and household sizes as here.

The Monterey Park Community Association offers a community hall to those in the neighbourhood that need it. They also use it for community meetings, programs, adult classes, ESL courses, and many other programs. All these initiatives are designed to bring people together, build a sense of pride in their neighbourhood, and unite the people living in Monterey Park.

The community has many shopping options nearby, many of whom are run and frequented by the locals living right here. These locations offer local and ethnic treats, stores, and services. The major shopping around here is mainly done at these local shops or else at the Sunridge Mall nearby. These pale in comparison to the CrossIron Mill shopping plaza located just a few minutes north of the community. Monterey Park loves to visit this as a destination for more than just an average day of shopping.

The community has the facility hall from the community association to use, but the neighbouring communities also have a lot to offer. The Don Hartman Sporting Complex is a couple minutes away, a fully-equipped gym, a fitness studio, and a large sporting gymnasium are favoured by those wanting some exercise and recreation.
