The community of Mayfair sits in prime real estate. The community shares its border to the north with Bel-Aire, also a prestigious community with large homes. The streets are wide with large trees, welcoming the people home into their neighbourhood. The rest of the community is nestled into a natural pocket between Elbow Dr, Glenmore Trail, and the Glenmore Reservoir.
The people of Mayfair are an exclusive group. They tend to be some of Calgary’s elite, a higher class of people with great careers and plenty of education. Only slightly fewer than 500 people call this their home. There are only single-family detached homes in this neighbourhood, many of them very large. This is making it out of reach for first-home buyers to get into the neighbourhood.
Statistics tell us that the majority of the residents have lived here for over 5 years, making this a difficult community to start in, but welcoming the long-term dwellers. Most of the inhabitants are older with established families, children at home. The average income is much higher than Calgary’s average, 5 times the city-wide average. The majority have their vehicles to get to work, which is commonly in the downtown area. The vast majority of the population have post-secondary degrees which they use for advanced careers.
The Mayfair and Bel-Aire communities share a community association. Because both neighbourhoods are so similar, the association combines events and gathering to welcome guests from both communities. The association puts on community clean-up events, block parties, and a Stampede breakfast every year.
Amenities near Mayfair Real Estate
Mayfair residents can enjoy a good selection of amenities to choose from. Many residents love the proximity to CF Chinook Centre, a major shopping mall in Calgary, the largest in the whole city. Its 250 stores offer retail shopping from everyday brands to high-end fashion labels. The mall also has several restaurants and dining options, great for those who live as close as Mayfair.
The neighbourhood sits alongside the Glenmore Reservoir, Calgary’s drinking water supply. The reservoir provides boating opportunities in the city and kilometres of trails around the perimeter. The trails connect with further trails along the Elbow River where the reservoir spills over to the river. These trails lead residents to the Calgary Golf & Country Club, one of Calgary’s oldest and most exclusive clubs.
Mayfair residents have excellent access to other amenities like the Rockyview General Hospital. Its world-class facilities include many specialties in several fields of medicine. Patients travel from all over the city to visit this hospital and meet with the doctors here. Glenmore Trail allows residents to easily travel to their destination to the north or south of the city. Elbow Drive continues all the way into the city core, a pleasant drive along the shores of the river.
Schools near Mayfair Homes for Sale
Mayfair does have a good number of schools in the district for the children living here. Elboya School is an elementary and junior high school, offering French immersion from Kindergarten through to Grade 9. Western Canada High School is another popular designated high school for Mayfair. Henry Wise Wood High School is closer for residents although it doesn’t offer the advanced classes that Western Canada does. St.Augustine fine arts School and Kingsland School are options for elementary students in the public and Catholic school systems.
Western Canada High School ranks in the top 20 schools in the province, a ranking it receives years after year. The school prides itself on providing the International Baccalaureate program, a world standard for advanced classes, recognized as the best educational tool for high schools.
