Homes For Sale in Lake Bonavista
Lake Bonavista is a large community in Calgary’s southwest, first established and constructed in the early 1970s and 80s. Homes here feel more spread out, more relaxed with their boundaries with large amounts of room on either side of the house. The community is bordered by Anderson Rd, Macleod Trail, Canyon Meadows Dr, and Bow Bottom Trail. Lake Bonavista actually contains the smaller micro-communities of Lake Bonaventure and Bonavista Downs. They come under the one banner of this community though.
The community is large and very prominent in Calgary. Over 10,000 people live here in homes that vary in size and style. Most of the homes have a character from when they were built. They tend to be centred around the lake, which forms the basis of much of the community’s activities and events. The population is derived of 15% immigrants, which tends to be lower than Calgar’s normal diversity ranges. People with higher incomes choose to live here for all it offers, significantly elevating the average wage of the community. 90% of the population has a high school diploma or greater educational degrees.
Most of the residents live in these single-family detached homes, with a few apartments lining the outer streets as well. It’s a more mature community, with odler fmailies, especially with children who’ve left home, representing a very large population. That’s not to say there aren’t young families, which there certainly are. An average household has around 4-5 occupants and family is the central theme to this neighbourhood.
The Lake Bonavista Community Association is also centred around the lake. Many of the activities offered here are held at the lake or involve the lake in some way. You’ll find Stampede breakfasts, adult programs, sporting events, and family barbecues. The association also does its best to represent the voice of 10,000+ Calgarians for the city council and matters pertaining to development here in the neighbourhood.
Amenities near Lake Bonavista Real Estate
The community is obviously very focused on the lake itself. It’s one of the first man-made lakes in Calgary and presented a new opportunity for Calgarians to enjoy. The lake is only open to residents, a private lake that any resident can use upon payment of the yearly fee. The Lake Bonavista Community Association regulates and maintains the lake. There is swimming in the summer and skating in the winter, with several other peripheral activities as well such as tobogganing and bike riding. Nearby is The Lake House restaurant, a great place to rest and dine after a full day of activities. Other activities are open at Fish Creek Provincial Park for residents to use at their discretion.
The community, while very quiet and peaceful, is not isolated from major commuting roads. Macleod Trail and Anderson Rd are the major access points for anybody wanting to drive around the city. There’s also instant access to the C-Train station as well for those who prefer to use public transit. The community is served by well-designed roadways that pass through the neighbourhood and help commuters get where they need to go.
Shopping is a major amenity that every resident here can attest to. Southcentre Mall is next door and provides several stores, professional services, and restaurants to choose from. The shopping at Avenida as well as Willow Park Village is also very highly considered by those living here.
