Glamorgan is a southwest community, sitting near the western edge of the city. The community is bordered by Glenmore Trail, Sarcee Trail, Richmond Rd, and 37th St SW. This little neighbourhood is fenced away from the major roads but feels accessible to any of them. The neighbourhood continues to thrive with its new developments that replace older homes built in the late 50s and early 60s. This creates a character and charm to this community that is unique and not found anywhere else.

6500 residents call Glamorgan their home. Of the 2800 housing options in this community, many choose to live in the variety of choices. Single-family homes represent the leading minority option with several apartments, townhouses, and condos found throughout. One-quarter of the population is from an immigrant background, many from South American, African, or Asian countries. The community welcomes those first-generation Canadians with open arms.

The population here makes slightly less per household than the Calgary average. The households tend to be smaller than Calgary’s average as well, with family sizes skewing to be smaller. The community has around two-thirds holding a post-secondary degree of some sort, many of those working in the downtown core which is very close by. Over half of the neighbourhood have lived there longer than 5 years, but opportunities to buy into this neighbourhood still exist, making this a desirable place to live and settle down. 

The Glamorgan Community Association is a volunteer board that offers memberships to those living here. Members have the right to vote and speak on community matters as well as use the facility hall for various events. They offer a children’s centre for day care, sports tournaments throughout the summer, community clean-up events, and family fun days to welcome in everybody and connect them to their neighbours. 

Amenities near Glamorgan Real Estate

Glamorgan has so much to offer that it’s hard to list in just one place. Right next door is the Westhills Towne Centre, a major destination spread over acres of retail space. The dozens of stores here offer every type of shopping from little cafes to restaurants, to entertainment, to professional services. The community likes to use this for all their shopping needs. Nearby, Marda Loop offers a few trendy shops in Altadore, a great location for Calgarians.

Transportation in Glamorgan is easy with several major roads nearby as well as an established and efficient public transportation system. Crowchild Trail takes residents directly into the downtown core in just minutes. Sarcee Trail and Glenmore Trail connect this neighbourhood to the rest of Calgary with ease. Buses run throughout the day and night and travel to nearby C-Train stations for commuters who prefer public transit. Mount Royal University is right next door, offering students housing options that suit their budget and needs.

If residents wish to be outdoors, parks and pathways can be found nearby. North Glenmore Park offers a pathway system that travels all around the Glenmore Reservoir. The kilometres of pathways are shared by bikers and walkers year-round.

Weaselhead Flats is 237 hectares of public park grounds, a natural reserve that has cross country skiing, hiking, and several opportunities to spot wildlife in the area.

Schools near Glamorgan Homes for Sale

There are good schools that offer Glamorgan residents great options all around. Glamorgan School is a K-9 school with a good program and reputable teaching staff. St. Andrew School is an elementary school in the Catholic system offering a faith-based alternative to public schools. 

Sir James Lougheed School, Killarney Elementary, as well as Glenbrook School, are great choices. For senior high students, Bishop Carroll High School and Central Memorial High School are the best nearby options in the public and Catholic systems. Bishop Carroll has been ranked in the top 30 schools in the province, beating out several private schools with costly tuitions. It has a very extensive fine arts program, great athletics, and number of international students choosing to attend here.
