Homes For Sale in Garrison Green

The neighbourhood of Garrison Green has a rich story. It was once the site of the Canadian Forces Base, home to several branches of the military. When that closed down in the 1990s, the city of Calgary proposed three communities to replace the military grounds, Garrison Woods, Currie Barracks, and Garrison Green. This small neighbourhood is the result of that decision and the recipient of future development. The neighbourhood is defined by Glenmore Trail, Crowchild Trail, and Richard Rd separating the neighbourhood from the university grounds.

The people of Garrison Green choose to live here for a variety of reasons. What you find here isn’t found anywhere else in the city. Over 25% of the community has an immigrant background, many of them students who live here for the proximity to Mount Royal University. They tend to live in small households, maybe two or three to a residence. The family units are also small, mostly having one or two children at home. The average wage is less than Calgary standards and the education levels are much about the same as the rest of the city. The community, mainly because of the university, is fairly transient, with many homes available at any time. Of those who wish to settle down in Garrison Green, they choose to live there for 5+ years simply because they appreciate everything this small neighbourhood has to offer.   The majority of options for housing are townhomes and single-family homes. There aren’t many of them, but they do represent a good opportunity to raise a family and grow up in this community.

The Garrison Green community does not have its own association because of its size and demographics. They do, however, identify with the Marda Loop Communities so regularly join in with their events and programs. The community gets its sense of connection from the events and initiatives run by the Marda Loop association.
