This community is located in Calgary’s southwest sector with a fairly large footprint in an older part of town. The streets are wide and offer the homes for sale in Elboya plenty of room to live. The community sits between the valley and overlooking hill of the Elbow Valley, and offers residents a choice between shared community living and the more affluent areas along the river. The borders of Elbow Dr and Macleod are natural barriers for the housing here. 50th Ave SW and the Elbow River form the other two sides.
For its size, Elboya does not have many residents. Fewer than 2000 people live here, choosing single-family homes as their dwelling choice. This is the majority choice for most people here in Elboya. There are also modern, deluxe apartments being developed in pockets of the neighbourhood, taking over the older homes that are in need of repair. This, along with the newer townhomes, makes Elboya a popular choice for developers and investors. The community feels very established, residents here making more than the Calgary average income. The community is predominately Canadian in origin, only 14% are first-generation immigrants. Two-thirds of the residents hold post-secondary degrees, many of them working in the downtown core area.
The Elboya Community Association was formed by volunteer organizers to represent the best interests of the community to the city. It also is designed to hold community events to keep the residents connected to each other. This community is fairly strong with a good sense of pride and neighbourly care.
Amenities near Elboya Real Estate
Elboya homes have a good amount of amenities and activities close at hand. This includes many green spaces and trails for walking or biking. With access to the river, this along is kilometres of paths to enjoy. Stanley Park is a popular destination for many residents, a clean, well-maintained park with picnic tables, swimming, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and lawn bowling.
Close by is one of Calgary’s largest malls, CF Chinook Centre. This shopping mall has over 100 shops and stores from high-end retail stores to popular brands and labels. It’s a destination for many Calgarians located right on the doorstep of Elboya’s neighbourhood. The local Britannia Plaza Shopping Centre is another destination, a unique mix of local businesses and retailers serving this area.
Commuting from Elboya is easy along the MacLeod Trail or Elbow Drive roads. They both can take residents into the downtown area within minutes, providing comfortable access to the central part of Calgary. Walking and biking into downtown are both popular choices as well as public transportation. Calgary buses travel along MacLeod and Elbow Dr with regularity, a favourite choice for many residents due to its convenience and price. Glenmore Trail is also close at hand, offering the opportunity to travel anywhere else in the city without any hassle at all.
Schools near Elboya Homes for Sale
Elboya’s school district is enviable, a central location with many options at hand. Elboya School is at the heart of the community, a school that has students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. There’s also Emily Follensbee School, St.Augustine fine arts School for Catholic education from K-9, and Western Canada High School for many resident students in the area. These schools offer students a better-than-most educational difference.
Emily Follensbee is a school for complex learning challenges, students who aren’t able to keep up with the standard of education in other schools. It has a good reputation for teaching children with the most extreme of learning difficulties. Elboya is blessed to have Western Canada High School nearby. This school has ranked in the 20 schools in the province for many years running. Fraser Institute ranks it highly among other schools because of its foundation in academic pursuit. The International Baccalaureate program offers world-class standards right here in Calgary.
