The community of Deer Run is small in stature, and contains just a few streets and roads to its neighbourhood. The community is defined by the border along the Bow valley, Fish Creek Park, and Deer Run Blvd. Because this community is more spread out than most communities in Calgary, homes here enjoy more solitude and privacy than other homes.
The community of Deer Run has interesting statistics that tell the story about living here. Over 5000 people live in this small area, making it densely populated and yet still feel sparse and spread out. Over 75% of the homes here are single-family houses with a few apartments, townhomes and duplexes to round out other options. As the majority of the population here lives in a family unit, the detached home is considered the most attractive option. Just 16% of the people living here are immigrants, a number far lower than other Calgary communities, but still representing a healthy amount of diversity in the neighbourhood. The education levels tend to be a bit lower than other neighbourhoods as well although very high income levels compared to the city average. Almost 70% of the population has lived in this community for the past 5 years, with at least 90% of the community living here for over a year. Amenities near Deer Run Real Estate
For those living here, the residents feel like they have everything they need at their doorstep. Many residents talk highly of the nearby shopping Deer Valley Shopping Complex in Deer Ridge, using it more grocery, necessities and some professional services as well. Other shopping is not far at Deerfoot Meadows for bigger brand name stores.
The community is poised along one exit to Deerfoot Trail, making it incredibly easy to get in and out of the neighbourhood. For those who commute to work, especially toward the downtown core, this is especially appealing. It’s never more than a few minutes away from work for those living here. Other access points include Canyon Meadows Dr to get on to Macleod Trail and the southwest of Calgary.
The community obviously enjoys the outdoors with so many of the homes bordering on the Fish Creek Park verge. The park offers many kilometres of trails and paths to explore, perfect for year-round exploration. Some of the best fishing in the city is right here in the Bow River, just a couple of minutes' walk away from most of the neighbourhood. Deer Run School is one example, a local school that offers Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes for Deer Run and Deer Ridge students. Other nearby schools include Don Bosco School and Prince of Wales Elementary School. High Schools in the nearby area include Dr E.P. Scarlett High School and Centennial High School in Sundance. Scarlett High School consistently receives high rankings by the Fraser Institute for its academic programs and International Baccalaureate classes. It also offers exceptional athletic programs as well. Currently, Scarlett is ranked 36th in Alberta.
