Crescent Heights is a large neighbourhood in size. It is so large that it sits in both the northwest and northwest of Calgary, a feature unique to this community. Sitting alongside some of Calgary’s major roads, it offers excellent access anywhere in the city and beyond. To the north is Trans-Canada Highway, a quick exit to the west of Calgary towards the mountains. To the south is the Bow River, Memorial Drive and the downtown core. Historic Edmonton Trail makes the eastern border while 4th St NW forms the other side.
The community houses approximately 6000 people from many ethnic backgrounds. One-quarter of the residents are first-generation Canadians, recent immigrants who live close to the downtown for all the amenities that it offers. The average income is slightly lower than Calgary’s normal earners. Many of Crescent Heights’ residents are well-educated with a post-secondary degree in some field. The real estate in Crescent Heights is mixed. 40% of the homes are single-family houses, many of them currently undergoing some form of renovation and upgrade. The community has shown a lot of promise to developers and investors seeking to improve the neighbourhood from its historic roots. There are also apartments, many of them also upgraded to create new luxury dwellings close to the downtown core. This is a common choice for young urban professionals working in the Calgary downtown business districts.
The Crescent Heights Community Association uses membership fees from the residents to offer many cultural and community programs. They offer yoga classes, facility rentals, courses, early childcare, community gatherings, and much more. A community newsletter keeps everyone informed about how to get involved with their neighbours around them.
Amenities near Crescent Heights Real Estate
Crescent Heights has a reputation for offering quite a lot of activities for its residents. The most obvious option is found in Calgary’s core district. This area contains dozens if not hundreds of stores, retail shopping, restaurants, experiences, and much more. Unique shopping and major brands can all be found in Calgary downtown district. There are several options within Crescent Heights as well. One of the most notable is Peters’ Drive- In, a Calgary-favourite destination for over 40 years. This famous drive-in offers some of Calgary’s best milkshakes, hot dogs, and burgers.
The popular lookout at McHugh Bluff is a regular hot spot for dog walkers, bikers, and joggers. The bluff runs alongside the river and provides unspoiled, unrestricted views of the city skyline up close with the river in the foreground. The trails are always very popular in summer and winter. Rotary Park is also located in the community, a public park area with a spray park, off-leash areas, and playgrounds for everyone to enjoy.
Within the community, there is the Calgary Climbing Centre, a rock climbing facility with several walls and obstacles to climb. Mt Pleasant Tennis Club and Splash Park are hot locales during the summer months. There is also a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints temple within the community.
Schools near Crescent Heights Homes for Sale
The community of Crescent Heights has great access to the best of Calgary’s school districts. The Crescent Heights Senior High School pulls in thousands of students from all over Calgary’s north. Close by is King George Elementary, a French immersion school with a good reputation, Balmoral School, and Langevin School, focusing on the special needs students with difficult learning challenges.
Crescent Heights Senior High is well-regarded in Calgary. It ranks 69th in the province and produces many students with exceptional marks. King George is also a good ranking school, usually found in the top 100 schools and focussing on small classrooms and excellent teacher-student ratios.
