This is one of Calgary’s newest southeast communities, a neighbourhood that exists on the very edge of the current plan for Calgary. Although, the city has recently introduced several new communities in the area, this will likely be the edge of Calgary for a few years to come. The community boundaries are Stoney Trail as it winds north, 52nd St SE, McIvor Blvd, and 130th Ave SE.

The population, like many of the communities in this area, has been steadily increasing in the past few years. By looking at the demographics, we can see who lives here and who this appeals to. There were 7200 residents in 2011, 10,000 in 2014, and now have over 13,500 residents. It is a very family-friendly neighbourhood with many homes here full of preschool-aged children. The average resident here is also younger than the average Calgarian in the rest of the city, often by as much as 6 years youngers. This community tends to attract the people who earn more, with people here making tens of thousands of dollars more than their city counterparts. The community has around 77% of its housing made up with single-family homes, while the remainder are several apartment buildings and townhomes in pockets of the neighbourhood. Around one-fifth of the population come from an immigrant background, making it quite a diverse community with several nationalities in the one neighbourhood.

The Copperfield/Mahogany Community Association has the task of running events that connect people in the two neighbourhoods. Copperfield residents can use the association to get adult education, access programs, and use the association to build community spirit. As for the residents, they also get the benefit of a voice in the face of the city council and all the decisions that affect the people living here.

Amenities near Copperfield Real Estate

One of the defining features of this neighbourhood is its accessibility. This seems counterintuitive in relation to a community on the very edge of Calgary but Copperfield is set perfectly on the Stoney Trail ring road. The residents here can quickly get where they need to go along one of the most accessible roads for the city. Many people living here commute to work and Stoney Trail provides several entry points into the downtown core. The community also has very good options with Deerfoot Trail. Calgary city council has recently begun the construction of the Green Line C-Train which will extend from downtown to Copperfield. Residents are eager to have public transit so close at hand to where they live.

The families living here have the great parks and playgrounds to use. The houses here have paths, park, and playgrounds spread throughout the neighbourhood. There are enough green spaces in the community that provide good recreation for the residents here. There are also large ponds around the neighbourhood, natural wetlands that have wildlife living in them as well as providing a natural skating rink during the winter.

The community has the shopping complex at 130th Ave is a huge complex with several options of retail stores, restaurants and professional services as well. Residents don’t have to travel far to reach all the necessities that they need.

Schools near Copperfield Homes for Sale

Because there are so many parents and young children here, the demand for good schooling ensures that several education options are available here. There is St Isabella, an elementary and junior high school for Catholic education. This faith-based school has a building reputation, a very new school that has solid teaching and good programs. Nearby, we also have Dr Martha Cohen SchoolSt Marguerite School, and Copperfield School. Copperfield School is in the public system and has classes up to Grade 4 to help alleviate the burden on the elementary schools by removing the top two grades.
