What is there to do at Bowmont Park?

The park has plenty of recreational pathways, nature trails, interpretive trails, and paved sections of the Bow River pathway. The paths can are suitable for hiking, running, walking, and cycling, with some single-track mountain biking trails.

Both fenced and unfenced off-leash areas are available in the park at the Bowmont Park Fenced Off-Leash Area. There's also off-leash river access, perfect for your puppy who likes to splash around on a hot day.

Visitors can have a good time at the picnic sites with tables, two playgrounds, a baseball field, and a soccer field. You can even enjoy fishing and swimming in the park with plenty of river access points.

Bowmont Park also includes Waterfall Valley, which runs from the south end of Silver Springs Boulevard to the river below. Waterfall Valley is a well-maintained boardwalk that goes through some lovely little forested groves on its way down to the river.

This short but pretty trail also has stairs, a spring, small waterfalls, and a great riverside lookout at the end. It's perfect for kids because of all the fun structures, short distance, and sun and shade mixture, so you don't get too hot or cold.

Bowmont contains a cliff face that illustrates several chapters of its geological history. You can also see an unusual, spongy-looking geological formation called "tufa." Associated with the tufa is a three-metre-high waterfall.

Near the waterfall is a scenic lookout over the Bow River Valley. This park provides an opportunity to experience a mature riverine forest with its abundance of flora and fauna.

How big is Bowmont Park?

Bowmont Natural Environment Park is a 192 hectares urban park on the Bow River's northern bank. It stretches along the north river edge and escarpment forming an important wildlife corridor.

The most recent expansion of Bowmont Park, Dale Hodges Park, opened in June 2019. Dale Hodges includes innovative public art in sculpted land structures that treat stormwater before entering the Bow River through the outfall.

Where is Bowmont Park Located?

You can find Bowmont Park at 85th Street and 48th Avenue North West. It opens at five o'clock in the morning and closes at eleven o'clock in the evening.

You can reach the park through the paved Bow River pathway or points along the escarpment. On the north side of the river, the Bow River pathway runs along the river edge from west to east from Baker Park to Bowmont Park.

The pathway network runs through Bowness Park with its railway bridges and then through the waterfall valley. The railroad bridges to the low-lying Bowness Park and Baker Park are visible from the higher elevations.

The pathways lead east to Dale Hodges Park, previously known as East Bowmont Park, from the waterfall valley. The next park on the Bow riverside pathway heading east is at Bowness Park. This area includes the 12.7 kilometres Baker and Bowmont Park Loop cycling trail.
