The community of Pineridge is located in Calgary’s northeast, one of the communities that is located in a fairly central, residential part of the city that has most of the industrial side of Calgary. This community was first established in the late 1970s and was built up over that period for a decade. The houses here reflect that time period with above-average sized lots for the houses here. The community’s borders are 32nd Ave NE, Trans-Canada Highway, 52nd St NE, and 68th St NE.
The community of Pineridge has over 10,000 residents, a massive boom in the past 5 years. Although this community has been established for a couple decides, its popularity has expanded greatly. The community is made up of over a third of immigrant background. The proportion is slightly higher than elsewhere in the city but is fairly typical for this area of the city. The neighbourhood is mainly populated with single-family homes, but that’s not the preference by everyone. It’s a fairly even split between the apartments, townhouses, and several duplexes found here. This sort of neighbourhood is seen as an affordable, available option to many Calgary home buyers. The community on par with the average age and household size. These homes are typical for what we see elsewhere in the city. There is a slightly lower income level here compared to the other Calgary communities, but that correlates with the lower education levels and higher immigrant backgrounds. The Pineridge Community Association could be a little more active compared to how many people they look after. But regardless, that association offers the residents several opportunities to connect and meet during the year More importantly, they do present a united voice as the community of Pineridge for the city council matters in this area. That is done very well with many residents claiming to be well-represented here.
The community of Pineridge has the value of transit as it’s main amenity, one that many residents say helped make their decision to move here. The Trans-Canada Highway as well as the Stoney Trail ring road, provide residents all they need to get everywhere in the city. The residents here that choose to commute each day use these main routes as their sources.
The Pineridge community is highly diverse, with many nationalities represented here. That is not unnoticed for the shopping you’ll find here. This area is densely packed with local businesses that cater to that immigrant population. The neighbourhood is highly prized for its location to ethnic shops, restaurants, and grocers. But beyond that, the Sunridge Mall is another major destination for retail and professional services.
The children of Pineridge love the incredible trails and paths and playgrounds of the neighbourhood. Many of the parks and green spaces are flooded with kids every day, oftentimes being a great way for residents to get some exercise and recreation. Besides that, the community has the Village Square Leisure Centre that many families love. It’s a complete centre with recreation for all its visitors including a large swimming pool with slides, gymnaasium, weight room, fitness studios and much more. This is a hub of activity that invites many different visitors from around the northeast.
The schooling district here suits this are very well. We have Douglas Harkness School, Pineridge Community School, Saint Patrick School, Clarence Sansom School, and Lester B Pearson High School. Pearson is a full high school with several additional courses to aid those who need it. It offers an exceptional athletics programs, highly-skilled fine arts classes, and a great academics program. The school is ranked 215th in the province.
