The community of Mayland Heights lives right to the east of the downtown core of Calgary, technically in the northeast sector of the city. This community has been in the city for over 100 years, first annexed to be part of the city in 1910. The community, once called Crossroads, changed the name to Mayland Heights in the 60s as part of the revitalisation during that time. The community’s borders are Deerfoot Trail, Trans-Canada highway, Memorial Drive, and Barlow Trail.
The homes here in Mayland Heights contains over 6000 residents, a community that has remained stable and consistent for the better part of a century. The number one choice for housing is the single-family home, but this is not a majority at all. The community has an equal number of townhomes, duplexes, and apartments in this neighbourhood, well suited as a home for the professional singles working in the city’s core district. 17% of the population living in Mayland Heights is from an immigrant background, while the neighbourhood welcomes a large number of ethnicities here. These trails head right into downtown, and many Mayland Heights residents use them to commute everyday to work. It’s easier to bike into the core sometimes than it is to drive.
Other than that, places like Fox Hollows Golf Course provide further entertainment, a pristine course with a reputation for challenging even the most experienced golfer. The community loves living next to several parks and green spaces around it as well.
Mayland Heights Schools
The community has a number of excellent schools right next door. This includes Mayland Heights School, Sir John Franklin School, St Clement School, Belfast School, and Father Lacombe High School. Many residents love the Mayland Heights School because it’s an elementary that goes up to Grade 6, offering many courses in early French Immersion, one of the few schools in the city to do this. The school is ranked 365th in the province, an academic assessment provided by the Fraser Institute ranking system. Students can also attend schools in the area like the Delta West Academy, one of the most prestigious and exclusive private schools in the city, providing education that often ranks in the top in Alberta.
