MacEwan Glen Neighbourhood Information

The neighbourhood is MacEwan is set in the middle of the northwest of Calgary. It has  smaller footprint than some of its neighbours like Edgemont or Hidden Valley, but it has a thriving community living here. The boundaries are formed by Nose Hill Park, Shaganappi Trail, 14th St NW and Country Hills Blvd. Many of the homes here have great views of the park, which makes it feel less like living in a city and more secluded in nature.

The people of MacEwan are an ideal group of neighbours. There are 5000 residents living in this small area. The residents choose to live in single family homes, many of them having been built in the 80s and 90s. The homes and streets feel established and settled in. That’s reflected in the fact that over three-quarters of the population have lived in their home for over 5 years, an astounding representation of how popular the community is among residents. People here lead a contented life. They earn more than the Calgary average. They have an average household of two or more children at home. There are around 22% of the population that come from a first-generation Canadian background, many immigrating here to enjoy a good life in Calgary. 87% of the neighbourhood holds at least a high school diploma. And 95% of the population hold good careers in and around Calgary.

The Sandstone MacEwan Community Association, a group of dedicated volunteers who wish to help link the community together. Each year, the association offers events like family fun days, sport tournaments, running groups, and community clean-up days.    

MacEwan Glen Amenities

The MacEwan Glen community is surrounded with great amenities. It’s located next to great shopping in Edgemont, a big complex with all the basic necessities plus some more options. MacEwan also has the Country Hills Village shopping area, a popular spot for the communities around it.

The biggest feature of the neighbourhood is the park. Nose Hill Park is a large urban space with 11 square kilometres of open fields, hills, trails and paths to explore. It’s one of the largest urban parks in North America and a favourite destination for residents here. Several smaller parks and playgrounds dot the community, perfect for families and kids. MacEwan residents can use several roads to get to where they need to go. 14th St provides a convenient access point for those who need to get to the downtown core. Country Hills Blvd takes residents directly into the airport, just a short drive from the front door to the terminal. Stoney Trail ring road, which is scheduled to be completed in 2021, will allow access to the rest of Calgary very easily.    

MacEwan Glen Schools

MacEwan Glen has schools all over the neighbourhood and plenty surrounding. The district is very good and has excellent options for all students. Simons Valley School is an elementary school with Kindergarten through to Grade 6 students. Monsignor Neville Anderson School is a Catholic school for Kindergarten through to Grade 6 students as well. Schools in the area include Beddington Heights School, and Panorama Hills School. High school options are usually found in Notre Dame High School for faith-based education and John G Diefenbaker High School for public schools.
Simons Valley School ranks pretty well as a normal educational school. Currently, the Fraser Institute has it as 246th in the province. Monsignor Neville Anderson has a ranking of 202nd in the province. Diefenbaker School does very well as a high school. It has an International Baccalaureate program that consistently draws in high marks and better rankings.
