The community of Legacy is one of Calgary’s newest communities, especially in the south. Developers and builders are still in the midst of constructing this new community, but the possibilities have already started. The community is defined by 210th Ave SW, Macleod Trail, and the Bow River valley and Calgary city limits. The front half of the neighbourhood was completed first while the rear is still under development.
The community is still growing, without an accurate idea of how big it will become just yet. The community, while only showing a population of over 5000 now, is still expanding outward to have several options of homes. As for the housing, there is just about everything right here. Small condos allow retirees to downsize their homes. Several condo units range in sizes to accommodate growing families. There are townhomes, duplexes, and several single-family homes. And you’ll also find large homes with 7-figure price ranges overlooking the valley and environmental reserve below. But as of right now, the predominant choice are apartments. The community is designed for growing families, appealing to those with smaller children who want some peace and privacy in their homes. There’s no doubt that Legacy is a quiet community, removed from the noise and busy schedules of the rest of the city. The average wage here is higher than other Calgary communities. Because of its recent additions, there is no data available just yet for longevity, but at the rate its growing,we can see the popularity of homes here.
The Legacy Community Association is also very new, establishing itself through a variety of events to gather interest in Legacy and attract neighbours together to bond. This has included, in the past, barbecues and breakfasts, family fun days and sporting events, and several planned activities to attract potential buyers to consider a home here.
The community of Legacy was built with the future in mind. While the community has plenty to offer the residents right now, it’s the future amenities that sound promising and exciting. For one, there is a massive section of land on the Macleod Trail side that is sectioned off to be developed into a large shopping complex. The future site will hold dozens of retail stores, several of which have already started the process of acquiring possession of the lots here. This will most certainly appeal to residents who won’t have to travel far for their needs.
The community sits on the edge of Calgary, kaing it easier to escape the city and head west into the mountains for weekend breaks. On days of heavy traffic, it’s actually more convenient for Legacy residents to travel to Okotoks than other major shopping and recreational areas in the city. The South Health Campus is just minutes away and is in sight of many homes here.
There are at least 4 golf courses right nearby, including Heritage Pointe and Blue Devil Golf Course. The family-friendly theme of Legacy continues with the ponds and parks found throughout. While not designed for swimming, they do allow for winter skating ponds for hockey, and casual skating sessions. The playgrounds are modern with state-of-the-art equipment that isn’t found in other communities. Several bike paths and walking trails snake through the community and even into the Bow valley, offering yet another form of recreational activity.
The community has a couple schools underway for future development, slated to be built in the next 2-4 years. The recent completion of All Saints High School has welcomed high school students from adjoining communities looking to find Catholic faith-based education. There is another elementary school reserved in the community to serve the already hundreds of children living right here. Other nearby schools include Chaparral School, Saint Sebastian School, and Bishop O’Byrne High School.
