The community of Kelvin Grove upon first inspection doesn’t seem like a residential neighbourhood. The dominating Mayfair building overlooks several other businesses and office buildings. And yet behind them exist a number of other housing options. The community was established almost 70 years ago. It’s boundaries are Glenmore Trail, Elbow Drive, 14th St SW, and 75th Ave SW.
The community of Kelvin Grove is populated by just shy of 2500 residents. Normally, a Calgary community is made up with single-family homes, but in Kelvin Grove, they are the minority. Apartments make up the primary choice with detached housing making up the rest. A few converted structures and townhomes are dotted throughout the neighbourhood. This is an affordable community, and by definition, that means that the residents here tend to earn slightly less than their Calgarian counterparts. It’s a stark contrast to the neighbouring communities of Eagle Ridge, Mayfair, and Bel-Aire with luxury properties abounding. The population here is made up of small families or couples. The normal household is pretty small with maybe one or two children living at home, if any. By living where they are, they can use Glenmore Trail, 14th St and Elbow Drive to get anywhere in the city quite quickly. Even the downtown core is accessible within minutes, even with traffic. By should you prefer to use public transit, there are several buses that service this area, and the C-Train station is only a few blocks away. Access is very important as many residents like the safety of the Rockyview Hospital right next door. This major medical facility is a world-renowned site with high-class doctors leading their field in studies and treatments.
Entertainment and recreation is easy for anybody living here. The Glenmore Reservoir gives you the opportunity to row, to walk around the reservoir, or to bike along the well-maintained paths. Further opportunities for fun are found at the Earl Grey Golf Club or the Lakeview Golf Course right beside here. These courses are public courses with a good challenge for any skill level golfer.
Schools here offer good education among different facilities. Henry Wise Wood High School is within the community boundaries. The Chinook Park School is also right here as well. Henry Wise Wood has great academic advanced classes, a good introduction to several languages, and a thriving fine arts program that attracts several students from around the city. The Fraser Institute ranks it as in the top 100 schools in Alberta. Other schools include St Augustine Elementary School, Haysboro School, and Bishop Grandin high School.
