Huntington Hills Houses For Sale

The neighbourhood of Huntington Hills is embedded in Calgary’s northwest, a key location for much of the area. Many residents of the northwest pass through this neighbourhood, making it a popular place to live for those who must commute to work. Huntington Hills sits alongside Deerfoot Trail. It is bordered on the other sides by 14th St NW, 64th Ave NW, and Beddington Blvd to the north. Major roads pass beside and through this community, although it still feels very quiet and secluded.

The community here is fairly large. Over 13,000 people choose to live here, taking advantage of everything that Huntington Hills has to offer. By a slim majority, single-family homes are the most popular option for housing, although townhouses and condos are the next most popular choice. These are the options for many first-time home buyers who have the budget for something small in an ideal location. The residents here are one-quarter immigrants, people from Asian, European, and African nations. Just fewer than half of the residents have a degree or certification higher than a high school diploma. The median income reflects that education level with many resident earning less than the Calgary standard. The households of Huntington Hills usually have a family unit, kids at home, and tend to stay in their homes for 5 years or more.

The Huntington Hills Community Association offers its residents a chance to connect, a place to meet, and voice to be heard. The association puts on several initiatives throughout the year, an attempt to continue to strengthen the bonds of the neighbourhood residents.

Huntington Hills Amenities

Huntington Hills has the benefit of exceptional placement in Calgary’s northwest sector. It sits alongside Deerfoot Trail, one of Calgary’s busiest roads. This can take residents to the downtown core, to the airport, or down south. Centre St and 14t t also provide access points to entry the core district easily.

The community’s most obvious feature is Nose Hill Park that sits alongside of Huntington Hills. The neighbourhood has immediate access to the several pathways and trails that extend over this 11 square kilometre park, one of the largest urban parks in North America. On the northern tip of the community, residents can also get to West Nose Creek Park, a quiet public space with 73 hectares of open grass and paths to explore. Laycock Park is another public park that joins on to the many bike trails that extend all the way into the city and the Bow River. Residents can use these trails both summer and winter.

The community can shop at Deerfoot City, one of the largest shopping complexes in the area. It has dozens of stores, professional services, and restaurants to choose from. Several smaller stores can be found in the neighbourhood, offering basic necessities and food choices for people here.

Huntington Hills Schools

The schooling choices in Huntington Hills are extensive with many schools in the neighbourhood itself as well as surrounding the community. Huntington Hills School offers Kindergarten through to Grade 6. St Henry Elementary also offers the same classes but in a faith-based Catholic system. Other schools in the area include DR J K Mulloy School, Alex Munro School, and Catherine Nichols Gunn School.   All these schools are elementary-aged students, serving the massive need for these types of schools. John G Diefenbaker High School is located in this neighbourhood and has 15000 enrolled students from all over the northwest.

Most of the interest in Diefenbaker High School is due to the International Baccalaureate program, an advanced world-class program that puts students well ahead of their peers and in good placement for colleges and universities.  It ranks in the top 50 schools in the province according to the Fraser Institute. St Henry has improved its ranking over the past 5 years, a proof that the school’s focus on smaller classrooms and more teacher/parent coordination are the key to good education.
