It is now bordered and defined by the Trans-Canada Highway, Crowchild Trail, 14th St NW and 9th Ave NW. The community sits on an escarpment, providing residents with a perfect view of the city and the backdrop of the mountains in the distance. It’s a popular location for photographers and sightseers. 

The community demographics of Hounsfield Heights - Briar Hill show the kind of people that call this place home. 3000 people live in Hounsfield Heights - Briar Hill, in the older homes, large apartments or modern housing that has revitalised the neighbourhood. 60% of the housing here is in single-family homes, detached housing that has large yards and plenty of space between homes. The majority of the rest are apartments, some older and less pricey for students living close by, and some more modern and luxurious, designed for urban professionals working in the downtown core. By all measures, it seems the residents here are a good snapshot of the average Calgarian. They make the average income. They have the average family size of 3 members or more, and they have a slightly more educated population with 70% holding post-secondary degrees. The average age is skewed higher than normal with many older residents choosing to settle down in the area due to its proximity to downtown and its beautiful landscape.

Within the community is the North Hill Centre, a shopping mall with many of the necessary amenities and a lot more. Professional services, retail outlets and restaurants are the key centres in this mall. Hounsfield Heights - Briar Hill sits alongside two large post-secondary schools; The University of Calgary and SAIT. Between both schools, there are 30,000 students that enrol in classes every year. That means plenty of rental housing opportunity within the community. The schools also have amenities for public use like McMahon Stadium, MacEwan Hall, Olympic Plaza, and the Jubilee Auditorium.

Hounsfield Heights Schools 

There are a few schools in the area that will appeal to parents and students alike. Briar Hill Elementary offers Kindergarten through to Grade 6. There’s also Queen Elizabeth High School, Branton Junior High, Louise Dean School, and Queen Elizabeth Elementary. Many of these schools accept students from all over the northwest and they represent a good education opportunity in the public sector.   Briar Hill Elementary is ranked in the top 50 elementary schools in the province due to its classroom sizes and focus on excellence.
