Greenview Neighbourhood Information

The community of Greenview is at the edge of Calgary’s residential districts, bordering an industrial area alongside Deerfoot Trail.  Most of the community is found north of McKnight Boulevard, south of 64th Ave NE and bordered on either side by Deerfoot Trail and Centre St. This neighbourhood is quiet, accessible, and very much tailored to create a peaceful life. The community sits alongside a busy road and an international airport but neither of those affect daily living or bother the residents here.

The community has around 2000 residents. The most popular choice of residence is a single-family detached home, and there are several of those throughout the community. Converted basement suites, duplexes, and a variety of low-rise apartment complexes make up the remainder of housing options. Homes for sale in Greenview usually are the single-family housing or a modern apartment newly renovated and put on the market. Most people live within a family unit with very few residents living on their own here. Family sizes are small with many people living with less than 2 kids at home, if any at all. Most residents chose not to complete the city census survey so demographic data is sparse and unreliable.

The neighbourhoods of Thorncliffe and Greenview share a community association, offering residents a voice to city hall for over 60 years. The community association also offers youth programs, skating at the local ice rink, bingo, hall rental, fitness rooms, a recreational centre, and adult education.

Greenview Amenities

Greenview has a number of activities and amenities to offer. Laycock Park is one example of the green spaces and open areas around the community. The park is a municipal area with pathways, playgrounds, and picnic areas with shelters. It has several spots beside Nose Creek to enjoy as well. Within the community there several other areas for residents to enjoy including large open fields, baseball diamonds, and a biking trail along the industrial area that leads all the way into the city central district. One of the dominating views in Greenview is Nose Hill Park, a large city park with several hectares of wide-open spaces and  pathways for biking and cross-country skiing.

Greenview sits alongside Deerfoot Trail, a convenient passage for those who drive their own vehicles. Calgary Transit offers exceptional service to get commuters into the city and wherever else they need to go. Centre St is a direct line into the city centre, and a popular choice for many residents to get to their places of work. Greenview has direct access to great shopping in the industrial area to the east. It’s a gathering of businesses and retail shops that residents can use. Deerfoot City is another popular centre with supermarkets and restaurants of all types and cuisines.

Greenview Schools

For the students living in Greenview, schools are easy to find. This district has great options for French immersion, Catholic school system, public school choices and private academies. There are Thorncliffe School, Highwood School, and John G Diefenbaker High School for senior high students. Corpus Christi is a Catholic education school for Kindergarten all the way through to Grade 12. This school offers the community and much of the northwest of Calgary a religious education option.

John G Diefenbaker High School, according to the Fraser Institute, is ranking at 64th in the province. The school has a very diverse background with students coming from homes speaking 40 different languages. Thorncliffe School offers elementary education to the high number of first-generation Canadians from this area. This results in a multicultural school setting with a focus on integration more than academic excellence.
