The neighbourhood of Glendale is located in Calgary’s southwest. It’s a region of the city that borders the inner city and suburban. The community is close enough to the core to make it attractive to those working in the core and to families wanting to raise their children in a safe environment. The neighbourhood is bordered by 17th Ave SW, 26th Ave SW, Sarcee Trail, and 37th St SW. This community has a mixture of homes, parks, and open spaces of everyone to enjoy.

The community of Glendale is diverse and multicultural. It’s almost what defines this area. 2700 people live here, making a smaller community compared to other places in Calgary. The vast majority of housing options is limited to the single-family home, although in that there are several styles to choose. Older bungalows sit next to new stately houses with plenty of space. The remaining choices are given to apartments and a few townhouses spread through this community. This is an older community with residents aged higher than other places in the city. They tend to make an income that’s higher as well, many of the people working in the downtown core for better career opportunities. One-fifth of the neighbourhood are immigrants, mainly from Asian and European backgrounds. Almost 70% of the people living here have lived in the area for over 5 years, making a strong contender for one of the most popular locations for people to settle down in Calgary’s west.

The Glendale Community Association offers better opportunities every year to connect and bond with their neighbours. The associations raises awareness about upcoming events and municipal meetings through monthly newsletters. They present a united voice to the city council when discussing pertinent information to their neighbourhood.

Glendale Amenities

The residents of Glendale have a lot to enjoy. Once living here, they discover just how much this area has to offer. Optimist Athletic Park sits right in the middle, a big feature of this neighbourhood. The park is a public sporting ground that allows any team to rent out the 3 fields, 8 ball diamonds, or practice fields for training purposes. The park is also a popular spot for families to enjoy some outdoor time. Much of the community is taken up with green spaces, offering families plenty of choices to use the grounds as they see fit.

The community’s location along major routes helps connect it to the rest of the city. 17th Ave directly heads into the downtown core. It also happens to be one of the most popular locations in Calgary for unique shopping and trendy restaurants to eat. The nightlife is very evident on t7h Ave in the pubs and cafes that line the street. As for other shopping, residents love to use Westhills Shopping Centre down the road on Sarcee Trail. This plaza has a spread of dozens of shopping opportunities, stores, dining options, and services for every individual. Every need can be met here. Of course, Sarcee Trail connects the community with the rest of Calgary up north or further south. Otherwise, residents can opt to use the transit system, a very well established part of the neighbourhood. The 45th St C-Train station is just near the community. This offers residents a chance to take efficient, clean transportation right into the heart of downtown and into the rest of Calgary.

Glendale Schools

As for schools, Glendale students have a lot to choose from. Glendale Elementary offers K-6 education in a regular program. Glenmeadow Elementary opened up recently as one of Calgary’s newest schools. It fills the growing need for education among students here. St Gregory Junior High is a Catholic school, feeding kids in to the nearest faith-based high school, Bishop Carroll. Ernest Manning High School is the nearest public high school. It ranks in the top 30 schools in the province, a ranking that outperforms many private schools.
