Glenbrook Houses For Sale

The community of Glenbrook is located in Calgary’s southwest quadrant, sitting not far off the city centre and some of the neighbouring inner city communities. The neighbourhood has homes that extend back nearly 60 years to when it was first established as a Calgary community. The homes today have changed as developers recognize the potential and appeal of a close, residential neighbourhood so close to the downtown area. The community is cordoned off by 26th Ave SW, Sarcee Trail, Richmond Rd, and 37th St SW.

The people of Glenbrook are a unique and growing population. 7200 people call this their neighbourhood, a number that has grown steadily in the last few years. The people here love living in their community, with almost half of them having lived in the are for the last 5 years or more. One-quarter of the population comes from an immigrant background, moving to Canadian within their lifetime. The average wage is slightly lower here than Calgary’s standard, but that certainly doesn’t ring true for everyone. Some of the houses here are very large, stately newly-built houses that take advantage of the spacious lots and established feel of the community. The remainder of options include apartments, new modern townhomes, and duplexes. These homes usually house a family, the average size being at least 2 children living at home. 15% of the community doesn’t have a high school diploma, although 91% of the community is actively working in some capacity. This is a young community with a lot of opportunity to grow. The average age is younger than Calgary’s median as well.

The Glenbrook Community Association operates its own facility hall and offers members many different program within the hall. That includes yoga classes, day care, adult education, plus several community events. These initiatives help strengthen the community’s bonds with each other, creating a tightly-knit neighbourhood that looks after each other.

Glenbrook Amenities

The Glenbrook residents have a lot surrounding them that they can use. Many residents here love the access that Sarcee Trail provides them. Within a few minutes, they can be on Bow Trail to head downtown for business, also access by 17th Ave close by. The community loves to use the nearby Optimist Athletic Park, a public sporting park that allows sports teams to rent out fields and diamonds for play. It has 3 fields, 8 ball diamonds, and many green spaces for training and practice matches.

For shopping it really can’t be easier. Westhills Shopping Centre is right next door, encroaching on to the community itself. Here, one can find dozens of stores, dining options, services, dental clinics, pharmacies, and speciality shops. There really is everything in one place at Westhills and residents don’t feel the need to travel further out.

Within easy reach of the community is the 45th St C-Train station, a link to the downtown core for those who want to use the efficient Calgary transit system. This system has 118 kilometres of track that convey 100 million riders each and every year.  Buses pass through the community of Glenbrook, ferrying passengers quickly to their destinations.

Glenbrook Schools

The school district in Glenbrook is enviable, a bevy of opportunities in the nearby communities. A E Cross Junior High School offers a unique Spanish bilingual program to meet the growing need for Spanish speakers in Calgary. Glenbrook Elementary caters to students from Kindergarten through to Grade 6. St Gregory School offers education from Kindergarten to Grade 9, taking them all the way to high school in a Catholic faith-based program that provides an alternative to the public school system. St Thomas Aquinas School is also located in this community.

Given the high school options, Bishop Carroll High School is a great choice, one of the best high schools in the province according to the Fraser Institute. It performs better than many of the private schools nearby. Ernest Manning High School is very near as well, a school in the public system and also outperforms many private schools in the nearby regions.
