This community of Eagle Ridge is distinct from other Calgary communities. It is one of the neighbourhoods that isn’t exclusively residential, with homes here living next to Rockyview Hospital and Heritage Park. Much of the land here is therefore very valuable and sought-after. The borders of the community are 14th St SW, Glenmore Reservoir, and Heritage Dr. The homes that were built here in the 60s and 70s have stood in one of Calgary’s premier locations for decades, and many houses have seen incredible renovations.
The community of Eagle Ridge is small, just 500 residents living in homes here. This community is made up of just a handful of houses, many of them large and stately. There are a couple apartments in here, but they are hard to come by. This community is nearly the smallest neighborhood in all of Calgary, maybe sharing that distinction with Bel-Aire and Mayfair. The median income here is several times larger than most Calgarians make. It’s a very luxurious community with several homes in the 7 and 8-figure price range. Of those living here, over 60% have lived in their homes for over 5 years, many have moved here recently to capitalise on the opportunity to grab valuable real estate in Eagle Ridge. The community is a very mature community, many residents here having families that have grown up and left home. The average age is almost double that of other Calgarian communities. We also know that very few of the residents here are under the age of 20.
The community shares an association with Chinook Park and Kelvin Grove. This community association offers the tri-neighbourhood area a place and voice. The programs and events run through here have benefitted neighbours for many years, building and strengthening bonds, and creating a united front for the city council to address municipal issues. They care very much for the beautification and preservation of this neighbourhood.
The community exists in a nice pocket of Calgary, next to some of the finest amenities residents could want. For starters, it shares land with the prestigious Rockyview Hospital. This medical facility is a premier location in all of the world with specialists visiting here to intern and fellow under internationally respected doctors. The facility has seen major upgrades in the previous years and competes on the world stage for breakthrough medical science.
The community lives in major roadways of 14th St and Glenmore Trail, both options for reaching the downtown core and further parts of the city. Residents who do commute can often be in the downtown core within minutes, escaping much of the traffic snarls further south from here. This road system also allows the community to get to other major amenities like Chinook Mall and Westfield Plaza. Between these two major retail locations, every service and shopping need is filled.
The Glenmore Reservoir has trails that encircle the entire body of water, making it a very desirable place to walk or bike year-round. Many residents have homes that are built beside the water, offering unspoiled views of the city and reservoir.
There are a few good schools in the area, although that doesn’t seem to be the primary concern for the older residents living here. Chinook Park School and Henry Wise Wood High School are the nearest schooling options. The Fraser Institute ranks the high school as 40th in the province against other high schools. Both schools have good reputations in the city and provide programs to stimulate any student. Other schools nearby include Kingsland School, Haysboro School, and the Calgary Jewish Academy.
