The community of Discovery Ridge is a southwest community that sits on the edge of Calgary’s western border. The community is tucked away, following the curve of Highway 8 as it snakes it way out west. The community sits alongside the elbow river before it’s trapped into the Glenmore Reservoir This makes for pleasant flats and a nice view riverside with the mountains as a backdrop. This a recent community, newly developed in response to the overwhelming need to expand in this section of the city. The only definable border is Glenmore Trail/Highway 8. The people of Discovery Ridge are an upscale community. They prefer their isolation from the rest of Calgary while enjoying the best of what this area has to offer. The demographics are made up of nearly 4500 residents. Of those, 23% of them are immigrants. The average wage is incredibly high, double what Calgary normally makes as an earning income per household. They also enjoy predominantly living in single-family homes. Tasteful condos and modern duplexes make up the majority of the rest. These options suit every type of person who wants to live in Discovery Ridge. Discovery Ridge Community Association is a new volunteer organization that serves to unite the neighbourhood. They do that by first representing them to the council in matters of planning and development. Discovery Ridge Amenities
The Discovery Ridge residents have a lot to celebrate about where they live. First, they have a prime position to look out to the mountains out west. Discovery Ridge Schools
There are a few schools in and around the neighbourhood, serving the student population well in Discovery Ridge. Griffith Woods School is a Kindergarten through to Grade 8 school with a complete regular program featuring all the major streams. Ernest Manning School is a high school nearby with excellent records in the public system. Farther out, we have A E Cross School, Bishop Carroll High School and Battalion Park School.
Bishop Carroll has an excellent record with the Fraser Institute. It has a ranking of 36th in the province, even better than some private schools in the area. Battalion Park is a an elementary school with great rankings. It placed 67th in the province recently and often ranks in the top 50 schools.
