Coach Hill is a residential community set in the southwest of Calgary. This community has boundaries of Old Banff Trail, Bow Trail, and the neighbourhood of West Springs. There is more to this community than just a few homes. There is a community that is full of housing options like single-family homes as well as condo options for first time home buyers.

The community of Coach Hill is an established neighbourhood and appeals to an older generation. The demographics show older residents prefer to live in Coach Hill because it is quiet, peaceful, and very close to the centre of downtown. There are over 3300 residents here, many of whom have great jobs, earning the same as many of Calgary’s other residents. The neighbourhood seems to favour good education as 90% of the population holds a degree or diploma of some sort. There are a number of housing options, the main choice being the single-family home. Bungalow-style housing as well as larger second-storey houses are on offer. Many townhouses and condos are also available to those who want to get a start in this community. One-quarter of the population come from an immigrant background, moving here during their lifetime. Over 60% of residents have lived here for longer than 5 years, a significant statistic to those wondering if Coach Hill is an amenable community.

The Coach Hill Patterson Heights Community Association looks after the wellbeing of both these communities. They offer free sports programs, a Stampede Breakfast as well as several family days throughout the year. There is more on offer and the association communicates well with the residents to let them know about upcoming initiatives.

Coach Hill Amenities

There is a lot on offer for those who live in Coach Hill. The community is in close proximity to downtown, Bow Trail serving as the main access point for the city. A few minutes’ drive and commuters can be in the core district for shopping and business.  The community is almost entirely residential, but stores can be found in neighbouring communities for all the basic necessities.

The community is near to the Bow River, a major location for biking, walking, and boating during the summer. The river has trails that extend all the way into the city. Shouldice Athletic Park is close, a public sporting park with ball diamonds, soccer fields, and artificial turf for practice matches. Further activities can be done around the neighbourhood’s many parks and green areas. There are excellent transit options for the community. Both Sarcee and Bow Trails are major roads that offer entry into much of Calgary. There is also an efficient public transit system that makes the commute easy and hassle-free.

The community almost overlooks the University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Many students love to make use of the affordable housing here while they study at the school. The hospital is a major centre offering dozens of specialty medicines and dedicated staff for research into major diseases and disorders.

Coach Hill Schools 

There are schools around the community but none within Coach Hill itself. Luckily, there are many great schools in close proximity. These include John Costello Catholic SchoolOlympic Heights School, and Dr. Roberta Bondar School. Wildwood School and Westgate Elementary are popular choices for schooling options. The nearest high school is  Ernest Manning High School, a top 30 high school in the province with strong fine arts programs and an advanced education stream.

Westgate School is elementary that comes with a lot of reputation. The school currently ranks in the top percentage of provincial public elementary. It has a strong academic focus and small class sizes.
